iridescent / pearlescent / flip paint

Hey, new to the forum. Just got a used 2007 Civic. Got rid of my 1997 Accord. My first mod is actually going to be paint instead of the typical fart can, intake, wheels, or calipers...

I've fallen in love with the idea of a dark blue paint that fades into black.

I've been having a hell of a hard time trying to find information on how or where to get this (thread title) type of paint for my car. Is there an OFFICIAL name for this type of paint? Or a specific process name to get the paint this way? This is the first time google has ultimately failed me.

Can anyone please help me out? Thanks!

Its either that or a chameleon paint that your looking for.

The chameleon paint will give you a different color depending on the view angle.

A pearl will be just that, a pearl color but it'll have some of the color changing properties like the chameleon, just no where near as dramatic. The pearls do tend to have a more brilliant shine imo.

Both types of paint are pricey and your looking anywhere between $2500-$4000 for a paint job like this.

I was able to track down the guy. I should be a spy.
Here's his original post in a thread: http://www.club3g.com/forum/2574271-post30.html

"Black base coat with a ton of blue pearl paint job"

I guess I'll have to ask around paint shops in my area who can do that and what price they're willing to negotiate.

Thanks for your replies.
