Eclipse ESN confusion

My friend recently bought a new deck for his car. He has an older eclipse deck (about 4 years old) he was planning on selling it to me for 50 bucks, but i didn't know if it would work because of the Eclipse Security Network. Honestly, this isn't a stolen deck or anything and we'll probably just both end up going to the shop we got it installed at to see what they say, but i'd figure i'd see if anyone knew if it'll work without doing that...

thanks

The ESN is activated by programing any of one your CD's to be a key cd. Whenever you disconnect the power from your head unit and reconnect it you need to put that exact key CD back into the headu unit to make it work, you have 10 chances to do this i think. If you don't have the key Cd, or even forgot which one it is (which is actually pretty common) then the unit would need to be sent back to eclipse to be reporgrammed. When the deck was purchased and you sent them the warranty card, that's how they know that it's your cd player and not stolen.

If you have the key CD from your friend you should be all set. It'd be a good idea to contact eclipse after you put it in, i believe there is a way to change the information they have about who the owner of the deck is, your friend probably has to contact them actually.
