what will hit harder?

i was at a show this weekend and i sat right near the spl booth and i was watching them all day......awsome sounds....highest spl was 165 or so (escalade) do my question is....i wanna compete next time and i have 3 rockford he2's and 1 rockford bd1000. i would like to get into the 150's or even high 140's. would the 3 12's do it? or should i add another and another amp? maybe 6 8's? keep in mind i dont mind losing my trunk and i wanna run all rockford fosgate... whats the goods?

i doubt you could hit 150 (keeping everything in the trunk), you will proabably hit mid to low 140's. it all depends on how you install everything. no one can tell you exactly what you will hit do to installation and many other factors. i would go aim more towards the (2)power hx2's and (2) bd1500 depending on how much power the subs will take. not an RF Fan

yeah, youd prolly be well off with their high end 15's, (forgot if its he2 or hx2) and a buttload of power to each, at least a kilowatt, in a big *** ported box tuned decently high. you gotta be aware that a lot of high spl systems are tuned to play one note, loud as hell, for very very very short periods of time, extremely distorted.

i have a power hx2.. its loud but you definitely need to go ported. i mapped it on winisd and i would get atleast a 10db gain if i went ported

you were reading winISD way wrong if you saw a 10 db gain. you might get 10 db's on one note, but not on the whole spectrum

A fellow enginner at Rockford wrote this cool lil MS Excell app that will ESTIMATE, I REPEAT, ESTIMATE your SPL based on vehicle, # of drivers, power, etc. It will give you a range and I think its pretty friggin accurate. Post your e-mail addresses and I will gladly e-mail this proggie to you.

Your system will have a resonate frequency. This is the frequency at which your car will create the loudest SPL. This freq is dependant on the type of box and its position. I ran 2 12's in a ported box faciing BACK about 6" away from the trunk lid and my res freq was 44Hz. If I were you, I would run a sine sweep. This way you'll cover all of the freqs and you can find your peak response. Note: The proggie I sent you will give you the value at your resonate freq.

I think we talked about resonate frequency awhile back. For our cars it will be right around 45hrtz.

The excell program was quite accurate....said between 139.9 and 144.8 and my actual score was 144.2....not bad.

I am sure one of the Admins or Derek can host the program on this site...maybe in the DIY section?
