2003 civic headunit install

2003 civic headunit install
alright, well i was looking through the files and i found how to somewhat and way install an aftermarket headunit into a 2003 civic ex.....it seems a lil risky from the wording....Is this the right way to remove the old and replace with the new? Has anyone foyally rucked up their consel, by following these directions....i have installed a headunit before but this seems a lil more lucky than anything............ any pointers???
Here is the post i found on how to remove the old and replace with the aftermarket headunit
If it is a 03LX Civic manual you will need to do a bit more.
Step One - Pray
Step Two - Open you cup holder
Step Three - At the opening of the cupholder grab the shifter cover and pull like a mother till it pops up, then finish popping it off the console. I left my shift **** on since I did not want to mess with it, really does not have to come off.
Step Four - Remove the two screws facing upwards just aft of the cupholder
Step Five - Press the clips out from inside the shifter area on the trim piece that runs on both sides of the shifter which forms into the Lighter holder. like 2 clips on each side
Step Six - Once the clips are free, hold the trim piece by both sides and pull straight rearward till it pops out. You need to spread the sides apart a little bit to insure the clips don't get caught, but don't pull to far away or something will break. Once you are pulling correctly it will pop out quite easily
Now you can see the screws holding the dash in as above, I tryed to use a screwdriver but a socket was quicky substituted.

Rep Power: 0 Anyone with a 2003 do this yet? If it is a huge pain in the *** would u all consider paying someone to do it for yah? Cause i heard the rear 6x9's are a pain in the *** so i think i am going to pay someone to do those. Thanks!

Rep Power: 0 I actually just tried to mess with this today. I have a civic 2003 sedan. Things did NOT go well.
I bought this adapter http://www.pie.net/hon_aux_inst.htm which converts the 6-Disc CD Changer connecter on the back of the radio to an auxiliary input. I want to connect an MP3 player directly into the head-unit since I don’t have a tape player.
I downloaded Honda instructions for installing a CD Player/Tape Deck.

I was using it so I could correctly dismantle the center panel. Well, I don’t know what happened. They must have made a revision to the directions or something, because I totally broke the plastic piece that houses the lighter port.
The instructions say “Gently pry out on the lower cover to release the retaining clips and tab”. Well, I started out trying to gently pry, but it was not budging. So, I tried harder and harder until it came off. Then, I realized that there were no tabs. It was somehow screwed on from the inside. Nothing like what was shown in the picture.
So, instead of prying tabs out, I actually broke the plastic things that were attached to screws! I did not continue because I did not want to break anything else (Epically since I just got the car a week and a half ago!)
So, my guess is that when this publication from Honda was written, the peice that I broke was attached by using tabs. Well, somewhere along the line this was changed. They must have had too many complaits about things getting scratched from the prying.
I have been researching it all day, and I found ths post by ___ on the soundomain forum:

You have to pop up the piece around the gear shift, then take out the 4(i think) screws to take off the outer ring. Then there will be 2 silver screws that hold the bottom of the metal bracket to the car, once out push from the back of the stereo to release the clips.
as for the rear, break off the plastic tabs that hold the screws in place. once those are off, wiggle the speaker and remove it from the bottom, you should be able to bottom mount the new speakers.

na i ran up to circuit city today and asked them how much it would be to install a headunit on my car they said 40 bucks plus parts which they quoted me at 42 dollars (for parts) well the wiring harness i just got off crutchfield for 7.00 and the dashmount i just got for 12.00 off another site. This should cut my cost back down to the 42 bucks, and after reading ur story i am not even going to try it. I have had my car now for about 3 weeks and dont even want to screw with it. Although i have heard about what u are going to do to urs and i like the idea of hooking an mp3 player up to the car. Should be sweet. i could nto find that harness so i went and got a kenwood mp3 player off ebay for cheap-o.
Good luck with ur install. I hope to post pics as soon as i get my car all up and running. You do that too i would like to see where u are going to mount the mp3 player
