Port in subwoofer enclosures
I'm curious as to what the port in a sub enclosure actually does. recently, i just build a ported sub box, and i did pretty accurate calculations for it the port tube. Now i'm just curious what it actually does it make it louder.
From my knowledge of wave physics, the only reason i can think of is that the tube length is cut for the particular subwoofer, to match it's wave frequency. The length of the tube is probably the first resonance (n=1). I know that with resonance in waves, you obtain constructive interference, thus amplification of sound.
Can anyone explain this? thanks.

I can honestly say i dont exactly know HOW it works, and im not gonna tell you anything thats completely misinformed, so i wont say anything, but i can give you some websites you acn read through to get more info.
let me know
Basically instead of just using the sound wave from the sub moving forward you're using the waves created by the front and back of the cone. That's BASICALLY what it is, outside of that I'm not sure.
