Ok everyone, I did a search about this and I came up with some results, most of them having mixed opinions. Now, like I tell everyone, im going to college next year and I need all the trunk space that I can get. I currently have a JL Audio 12w3 in a ported box that I built, built right to spec from the JL site. It is pretty big and heavy and I really don't have much trunk space. So, if I can get a reply from those people that know for sure about this matter, if I get a closed enclosure that according to the JL site, should be 1.25 cubic ft, will I hear that big of a difference? I like bass that hits hard, but the notes are clear. I don't really care how low it goes. I just really care about the quality of the music I listen to. I have my whole trunk fatmatted, if that makes a difference. Id really appreciate you alls help. Thanks!
The only thing that I can tell you is try building the the sealed enclosure and testing the sub to see if you like it. There is no other way around it. Speaking from my experience with my sealed enclusure, the bass still hits clear and hard enough to shake the little 'vic. The sealed box will probably require you to adjust the gain a little bit higher to compensate for the small dip in spl. But, no one here can honestly tell you if you will enjoy the new sound. Only you can determine that, therefore you need to actually hear it for yourself and decide if you want to stay with that setup.
