headunit help plzzz

heres what i need, i want a pioneer premiere which has the oel display cuz i like that, i dont mind if its motorized. I dont know much about headunits but i heard u can control ur amp or something from ur headunit or something like that so u can turn the sub up and down and make it loud. I dunno whether i understand that right or not. I just want to be able to turn the sub up and down when i wanna. Then i want to be able to play cd-r cds cuz i have them and they have mp3's on them. So would i need a mp3 hu i guess.
So pretty much....
1. oel display
2. can make my sub louder or lower with ease
3. can play cd-r cds with mp3's downloaded to them
4. can hook up a sub and amp to it and maybe add another amp later on

heres what i saw...

deh-6400
deh-p740mp
deh-p840mp

price is kinda an option, and i kno the 840 is way more then the 740, so i dont really need the motorized, but if i need it, i wont mind spending the extra. I think the only difference is the motorized stuff. And i see that theres like the 2003 models and the olders, any difference or just the same, thanx

So what exactly are you asking? You can find the answers to your questions on the product spec website for Pioneer most likely......

And most HU's nowadays have a seperate sub controll on them. Usually as long as there is a sub pre-out, it'll have a controll for it.

Since no one wants to answer your question properly I will- Make sure whichever one you get has 3 pre-outs or it will say sub-out. The models you listed there are fine EXCEPT the deh-6400. It only has two preouts.

why does it need to have 3 pre outs? i talked to mystic and all and he said i could hook a sub and an amp upto the 6400 and i decided to buy that because i dont need the mp3 cuz i only use audio cds not mp3 cds. did i make the wrong decision by getting the 6400?

It needs to have three line outputs, because the control you want is the sub control. And to be able to control the sub output, you need a dedicated line out for your sub. With two outs, that traditionally is for front and rear outs. Personally, I have a Pioneer DEH-P7300. Cheaper than the Premier line, and has exactly what you're looking for. You can change the cut-off freq. of the sub, change the output by +/-2db per level (making it louder). So I would say, expand your search. I know Sony has a few decks as well that have the sub out. I bought my Pioneer, cause of the OEL display. Because of the angles on our dash, the OEL or standard LCD displays are the only ones you can see in the daylight.

If this doesn't make much sense, I gotta get some sleep. Night, night.

2 things.
1, i dont think that 6400 has mp3 capability.

2, if you are amping your front speakersand running rears off teh deck, what you COULD do to have sub level output is this. move the connections to the rear speakers to the front speakers on the hu, so the power from the front goes to the rear speakers. then, in order to turn your sub up and down you could just fade from front to back. fading all teh way to the front would have no sub level, and fading to center would have inside speaks and sub at full, fading to rear would bring down the inside speaks level down and keep the sub at full

no, i didn't order from crutchfield. Anyways, the mp3 is no problem, cuz i dont have mp3 cds, i just use audio.

Also, are u saying that the 2 outputs dont allow me to add an amp and control it? Do i have to sell that headunit then and buy one that has the dedicated sub output? Yes i did order it already and hopefully it is on its way. If its gonna be a big problem to just power my sub because of the two outputs then i would have to just get a new headunit then i guess

Well, it's not gonna be a really big problem. What you could do if the deck has only two outs, is hook it up sorta like Ludlum suggested. Use the front speaker line outs on the deck to run the front speakers, and the rear line outs to run the rears. This way, when you fade it properly, to have the front speakers louder than the rears, you won't "fade out" your subs. Now, just find an amp that has a remote control module. Basically, this is a little ****, that you mount up front, and it connects to the amp via a telephone type wire. This will allow you to control the volume of the sub, by playing with the gains, "REMOTELY". Not exactly the best set up, but it will work.

Or, shop on the same site where you found the first deck, and once you find one, contact the dealer and ask if you can return the first one, and get the second one. As long as you buy the second one from them, I can't see them having a real problem, especially since the first one won't be installed.

Hope that helps. If you go with the first idea, and need help on the amps, let us know.
