2 Subs Better Than 1 Sub?
Hey everyone, after I got my new JL Component set, I realized that one sub really doesn't sound as loud when the component set goes louder. I liked my JL 12w3 sub for a while, but it doesn't really even seem to hit as hard anymore, its probably just me. I currently have it in a custom ported box that is around 1.75 cubic cm, recommended specs. I am thinking of getting another 12w3 and I am looking for sub boxes. I am thinking of going with a closed box this time for dual subs, that has 1.00 cubic cm for each sub. Both are divided so each has its own chamber. If I use my Alpine M300 and wire each sub up seperataly and then connect both subs to the +/- terminals on the M300, will it be alot louder than my current setup?
The general rule for spl is this: If you double the surface area you normaly gain 3 dB. If you double your power you also gain 3 dB.
So if you add another sub and hook it up to the amp you have, which is a mono block amp and the power doubles when dropping it to 2 ohms, you should get about another 6 dB.
But now you are also going from a ported enclosure to a sealed so you may loose a couple dB also.
Its hard to say for sure on how much you will gain but it will definatly be louder.

The thing though is that ill have two 12w3-D4 subs and I will have to wire them in parallel to get them at a stable 4Ohm load, which has an ouput of 150w x 1. If I wire two subs in parallel, then they will be handling a 1Ohm load and I don't think that my amplifier is stable at 1Ohm. So basically what im asking here is that ill probably have to wire both subs in parallel. Is it worth getting another sub using my mono sub amplifier? I can't afford another amplifier, I have just enough money for another W3 and a box. Also, should I go ahead and get a ported box or should I get a closed box for two W3 subs?
