I was just wondering on what options I would have with either enlarging, taking out, or just trashing the back trunk springs to put in my 6x9 pioneers in the back. I don't really want to get rid of em but I just want to know the possibilities.
if its only a little off, you can screw down the 6x9's and bend the bars a bit, whioch is completely OK.... you just might scratch up yoru 6x9 magnets a bit, which wont hurt performance, either...
if htey are really big, you will need to ditch them or get rid of the torsion bars, which means youll need air struts back there to hold up your trunk lid, which is actually very very heavy.
you cna get air struts at kragen for $20 each, and with the right strut, youll only need one. it wont bend yoru trunk lid so far out of shape that youll notice without looking for it

seriously, its not something that needs a step by step. the hardest part is determining the force and length strut you need, and that will change according to the design of your system.
for example, i use my trunk floor as the point of attatchment for my struts. therefore, i can use a LONG low power strut, as the leverage point is pretty good for lift.
Grey used a rather short, high powered arm to lift his, becuase he chose the underside of the rear deck to lift his lid. he needed alot more force to open his than i do mine.
then again, my strut is rather visible....
there are all tradeoffs. i believe his only opens the lid ~85%, mine is all the way, etc etc etc etc.
just sit down with yrou car for awhile, its not too difficult at all to come up with a simple yet effective design! a fun weekend project to do with some buddies, for those less experiencedwith cars...

this place might have what your looking for. i'm trying to figure a set up that i wont need to place them on the trunk floor, kinda takes away some of the show value.
