Center channels
i have a stock 6 speaker setup + 3 subs in my trunk (you can imagine that this creates somewhat of an imbalance in the sound)
i have a 6 channel amp (which i am only using 2 of the channels)
the other 4 do 4x75 RMS or 2x125 RMS (bridged) @ 4 ohms
so here is my question: what do you think it would sound like if i got myself 2 infinity kappa 6x9 3-ways and placed one at the front of the car (signal bridged with left and right) and one at the rear of the car (bridged)??
anyone ever hear anything like this?? i know the kappas would be significantly louder than the stock 6 and a lot crisper as well
it would effectively give me a 15 speaker setup, and probably a little overkill
my other thought was to get component kappas for the front and use the bridged channels from the amp to run those, but i dont feel like pulling apart my doors
so.. what do you think?

ive used both of the infinitys in my car, and i would definitly choose the components over the 6x9's. its a pain in the butt to get the speaker in the door, but its well worth it. im running components with 80 watts rms and they sound awsome. i might bridge them to 160 rms but im not sure yet
Get components. It's not as hard to put them in the door as everyone says, and you would certainly have a more difficult time making a custom spot for a 6x9 in the front of the car, as well as having it just not sound good. It would be a cool idea if done correctly, but if you were going through all that effort, you would want to do it with a higher end line of speakers such as Focal, MB Quart, Boston, JL, Alpine or Rainbow. And you would want it in additon to a good set of speakers in the doors or kicks.
For you're application I would go to a shop and listen to some high end stuff like I mentioned above, and get those for your doors. No rear speakers at all. Focal Polykevalars, MB Quart PSD's, JL XR's and Alpine TypeR are all in the $400/500 range if bought at a shop, and can be found online for $200/300. I would reccomend buying at a shop though so you get a warranty.

i looked at the specs for the alpine type-r's (who i really like btw, everything in my car is alpine)
and the only thing that confuses me is that they have pretty low power handling when compared with the infinities.. (and they have lower sensitivity)... so i would've expected them to not be as good as the infinities (at least at high volume).. the other thing is that those kappas are more expensive than the type-r's
thx for the info!

"crisp" and "kappa 6x9" dont belong in teh same sentence, unless you are saying "the infinity kappa 6x9 is not a crisp speaker even remotely"
then they would in fact belong in the same sentance
edit: as to making a center channel, we built a panel for a 2k1 civic up north to fit a radio in the lower accessory spot (with teh cig lighter) making a panel for a speaker there would be about the same kind of work, almost exactly the same, actually. and that kind of work i define as "alot". be prepared for massive custom fabrication to cram a speaker in teh center fo yrou car if you expect it to look good.......
