removing stock stereo on a 03 auto

I am going to put in a new deck myself and was wondering how you get to the deck to take it out on a 03 automatic. My console looks different than the one in the DIY section. Any tips on what i have to do to get the stock stereo out?

They are very different!! Nothing like the 02's!!
Took me a couple of hours to find the right way to do it.

1. Remove the small, outer-most ring from around the shifter.
2. Remove the next layer trim that's under that ring. Just pry up on the edges
3. Remove 2 screws and pry out the tabs along the sides to remove the whole piece (power outlet & switch holes) along withe the outer trim around it and running down the sides.
4. Now you can get to the bolts holding the center dash in (as described in most removal instructions)

Feel free to e-mail me at trents11@yahoo.com if you need more info. Just take your time and be careful...I now have to order replacements for those parts I cracked or scratched trying to figure this out.

Good Luck

thats really odd, bnecause i was told teh car we put a cd changer in was an 03 civic, i believed it because the paneling was slightly different than my 01, but the procedure was exactly the same. thats really quite funny. cig lighter popped right out and the bolts exposed right away.

went real quick.....

parts # 48 & 49 are 2003 specific, as opposed to # 43 from the 2002's

# 3 is the ring to be removed, # 4 is removed to reveal the screws to get off the trim piece # 48 from the first diagram I attached

Hope this helps.

WR, you were probably working on an 02, the panel with the cig lighter is different, and the console it self is slightly different. 03 models are a huge diference....the cig lighter is all one peice with the console, and the console has a built in armrest.

those bastiges lied to me!

we got the pin number anyways, so in the end, doesnt matter to us whether its 2002 or 2003

the 2002 cig lighter area kinda droops down a bit more? and kinda half folds under the center console? as opposed to our 2001 round non-angular cig lighter piece....

thanks

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate the time you took to put the diagrams up. I got the console part off although it left me with very sore finger tips

Thanks again!
