Hifonics Colossus Generation XX?
i am considering getting the colossus gen xx, anyone got this amp yet? i am going to be doing some serious work on my electricals, getting 2nd battery, 2 caps, and a few other things to up the input voltage as well. the place where i am getting it done at told me that he could get more than the 2800 watts out of it by doing a couple of tricks he knows. he has gotten the hifonics zeus well over the 600 watts that they rate it at. so i am trusting he can do the same with the colossus. the 15 i am going to be getting will be able to recieve 3000 watts peak so its not a problem. as long as he doesn't get it too high. anyone have this amp or worked with it, and know anything about it? is it worth the moeny it will cost me to get it and the upgrades etc.?
If its built anything like the old Colussus that thing has stupid power. I know the old ones had unregulated power supplies which drew heavily on the electrical system, but I'm not sure on the new series. I assume that your 15" sub has a dual 4 ohm coil? In the past those amps have only been 2 ohm mono stable so make sure your going to get max power out of the amp.
the zeus is rated for 1200 rms. i could easily get more than 600 out of mine
the zeus fried my home powersupply it has that much power.
the colossus is rated for 2400 rms. i have no doubts he could get it to "2800 rms" (fooling it to think that) using the trick of using a line driver.
and yes that am pwould be perfect for your eclipse titanium 15

skip the second batter, skip the 2 caps, and go to www.mralternator.com and buy a HO alternator. Caps are bandaids, second batteries are only good for spl burps. For everyday usage, a second battery will just draw more power and act as a giant resistor. Their alternator is about 240 last i checked.

first of all the HO alternator is a waste of money, the line driver, 2 caps, and second battery is much more efficient, and my first post was an error, the genXX zeus is rated at 1X1600 watts rms at 2 ohms, and 1100 at 4 ohms, and yes, the colossus is rated at 2800 at 2 ohms, and 1800 at 4 ohms, and on down as the ohms increase, but you know how ohms law works right rabbit. i know these ratings are true hifonics ratings, cause i am staring at the pamphlet right now. i am not trying to prove you wrong, but the ratings have suppossedly changed with the new generation xx line. we are going to actually be doing 2 colossuses, and two VT hammer Deadblow 12's in the install, and going to compete at spl comps, in the 1-2 sub consumer class. the current world record in 1-2 sub is held by a VT Hammer Pro install, and the Deadblow is supposed to be able to blow the hammer pro out of the water. and they can handle up to 3000 watts rms. and i think i have found a buyer for my vic, so if she buys it, then i will be putting this into a hb blazer xtreme. but if not, then VT is going to be building me a box for the vic, cause they said even though their boxes are designed for their subs that the Deadblow needs a custom VT enclosure. so either way, either car, i will be getting a box built. i intend on blowing my freaking head off, and they gurantee that i will not be able to sit in the car with 1 deadblow, much less 2. only time will tell.

if you insist, it must be true. *shrug* The laws of physics and richard clark must be bass-ackwards in reasoning
as to the rest of yoru post, it seems like everythign is planned out already. why did you post here? was it to brag? or did you really have a question? seems like you are only trying to show off.
and good luck with your pair of colossus, second battery, pair of capacitors, car that inint a civic, and yoru attempt at the world record.

HO alternators are a waste of money?
Lets start with the number part. The stock honda alternator gives us about 70 amps of draw. I think that the gm ones are 80 or 90 amp alternators.
Your colossus, lets say you get it up to 2800 rms.
2800 rms of draw, at the 13.8 volts your car will give you, means the current draw from the amp would be 203 amps of current.
Now, thats if the amp is 100 % efficient, but its not.
Let's give you the benefit of the doubt and say its 80% efficient, that gives a draw of 253 amps.
For music, youd use maybe 33% of the power, but for spl purposes,
youd use 80% assuming you have a really clean signal. Were back to a 203 amp draw. now, you said you were gonna use 2 of them.. heh... 406 amps of draw. If you know anything whatsoever about electricity, then you know 406 amps is a LOT. 406 amps will drain a battery to below 12 volts (where it then becomes useless) in probably a minute. so lets go through this. you turn on your system at some comp, expecting that a second battery and 2 caps will help. First of all, lets say you have 90 amps to work with, 40 will be taken by your car. Youre left with 50 amps. Your batteries will drain in a minute or two, your caps drain instantly. You're now trying to draw 406 amps from an available 50, and your batteries and caps are trying to draw power at the same time. this is basically about the same as a geo metro trying to haul an 18 wheeler.

no, i wasn't bragging, i was wondering if anyone had tried the colossus and wanted to know if it was worth the money, or if i should use something else. i thought i asked if it was a good enough amp to run what i wanted or not. and the guy that will be doing the install has also built two of rockford's cars, and says it would be a waste of money to buy a HO alternator, he has never used one, and said that i wouldn't need one. and i though that i mentioned that this probably wasn't going into the vic. i am about to buy a blazer xtreme to compete. he said that the acoustic qualitites of the xtreme would be much better than that of the civic coupe. also, instead of one battery i will be getting 4 optima yellow tops, and 8 caps. we modified the design a little more needless to say. i am not trying to brag. i wanted to know if the amp would be a good one for competing or if i should find something better. i want whats gonna be best for me in the long run. the build-up for this is gonna take him a while, and i would hate to have to do it twice because i bought the wrong amp, or didn't get what i should have in the first place. i was asking a question to get suggestions, but if you people wont suggest anything and resume your sarcastic comments, then maybe i shouldn't fool with asking or updating you on my rides and ideas. if you want to be jealous or get pissed cause i ask a question, then good for you. its not your money that is being spent, its mine, i want whats best, i dont care how much it costs, i am going to win, and i wont settle for less. if you people dont want to help me and be a part of my projects, then fine, i really dont give a damn. i want to know what will be the most functional for the purposes that i will be using the stuff for, and if your input is to criticize and whine and bitch and moan, then keep it to yourself. i havent been in ice but for about 4 years, cause i couldn't drive until then, so i was asking those that have been there for a while, i dont know all the stuff there is to know and i never claimed to, but my money spends just fine which means that it doesn't matter how much i know as long as the installer knows whats up, and i have a good idea in mind, then i can have about any system that i want.
