Both would sound as good..provided the enclosures are of the proper dimensions and built adequately.

How much power do you intend on feeding that sub?.

How much trunk space do you want to sacrifice?.

How much you want to spend on the enclosure..or if your DIY'ing it..how much time and effor you wanna throw in?

What types of music do you listen to most?.. do you plan on competing in SPL with it?

I was always told that sealed sounds "clearer" and you get better spl with a ported box...

i plan on using a RF punch 800.2, the reason im gonna use that amp is cuz i already have it so i will save some money on not having to buy another amp. as for trunk space, i would still like to have some room for somethings. i will be making the box myself, i have looked at the jl audio website for their figures and will probably just follow them. i usually listenin to rap but rock also off and on. i dont plan on competing but would like to be heard over everyone else.

you're gonna need more power than that 800 watts will barely move that sub....buy another one and run one to each voice coil. THAT will be loud.

Ok, correction, it will move it, but you won't be extracting anywhere NEAR the drivers maximum performance. With that amp, you should have just saved your money and bought the 13.5W6v2. With more power though.....in the words of Jesse "This will decimate all" Oh yah....if you run two amps to one sub make sure you get them tuned EXACTLY with a good multi-meter....otherwise you are gonna fry the sub.

ported would go alot louder, I built a ported box for my 12w3, and sealed you get better bass response. If you aren't looking for loudness, but clarity, then I guess go with sealed. Build it yourself so you can build it to spec. It will sound the best if you build it to spec.

i listen to rap, normal musics, i like deep bass not exactly boomy, but bass that hit the ground instead of hitting hard, should i go ported or sealed?and will ported blow up the sub faster cuz all the particles get sucked in the tube and get in the speaker?

Im not sure about the JBL amp, but I think you should get the JL Audio 500/1 amp. I hear it is a great amp. As for wiring your W7, I would wire it in parallel. That means connecting - to -, + to +.

I believe that the W7 series have only a single set of speaker terminals on them, and although they are a DVC sub, they are 3ohms total, and should be run by either a 500/1 or 1000/1 which can best meet their impedence and power needs.

thanks for you info guys, i went to Sound Advice today and the guy told me to not use the 800.2 on the w7. he said i will either blow the amp or blow the sub. is this true? i know i need more power for this speaker but the 800 watt amp will only be used for a month or two until i can get the money together for a bigger amp. will it be okay to use the 800.2 or will it not sound good and blow?

bro, dont buy your w7 from sound advice, theyll rip you a new one on price, that shop is SOOO overpriced.... btw, the rockford wont blow, but the sound will blow ***.... you need to find yourself an amp that will give you at least a kilowatt at 3 ohms, and thats hard as hell to do without spending a BIG chunk of change... that woofer needs good clean power, and you WILL be able to tell if you give it cheap raw power...

you can just wait and save more money, then buy both at once, plus you know prices drop on things over time...

hey ludlam theory why wouldnt you use the jbl 1200.1? i mean paying around 250 for that or paying like 800 for the jl 1000.1 is a big difference. is it quality? the only reason i keep asking about using the RF is because my parents are offering to buy the speaker, no amp. so if i could just use the amp i have it would be better.

====
and also i was at the shop that installed my w7 the other day....a guy running 4 12w6v2 was using 2 of those fosgate 800/2 amps and his amps would periodically cut off while playing....just something to think about

any time you are ready i have that price whenever
once again are you sure you want the 13 oh yeah just checked the price on the 1000/1
they are in such high demand the shop wants 750 for it but that is still better than any price out there and it is legit
$600 for the woofer by itself legit if you get it on ebay it voids the warranty...just something to think about
so give me a holler when you are ready

If you want a flat frequency response and the best transient response, go with a sealed enclosure. If you don't care about that much, then save your money and buy a different sub. There are several subs that will get louder than a W7 for 1/3 the price. I would only buy the W7 if you are a SQ nut, and have trained ears in which I am pretty sure you don't, especially since you listen to rap and rock...

As for the amp, it will work fine. The JL amp will not sound any better than the rockford amp, just has better features. Power os power, don't let anyone tell you other wise.

so just cuz someone listens to rap or rock they dont have trained ears?...WTF?....and the RF will sound just as good as the JL....come on....
not trying to hate on RF but it is not even in the same ballpark as JL quaility my friend....maybe you should take those same ears you have and trade them in for a new pair cuz listening to those HE2's has warped your hearing aids

And somebody knows what they are talking about! Yay! Closed boxes and expensive subs for QUALITY.. cheap sh*t and ports if you don't want to hear anymore, will cost about the same in the long run....after you add in the hearing aids....
EDIT: I just saw what Rodney said and I have to agree that RF doesnt make good subs....but JL doesn't make many good ones either, they only have one that really stands out, and that is the W7
