Is it really worth it to get an HU with MP3 capabilities? I'm looking at some Alpine heads, and I've got it down to 3 different ones, and the top one has MP3 capability. So, is it worth the extra money? (~$50)

Do you want to be able to play mp3's? If not it isn't worth it. lol
I have an mp3 hu (deh-740mp) and I love it. As long as you have high
bitrate and all settings for yer encoder set for top quality you can't hear
any differance and you can put many cd's worth of music on one cd. If you
don't want that then don't pay the extra $$$...... save it for

I think it is...if you want to play MP3 loaded CDs (and they can hold hours of music). For me personally, i opted not to get that feature because I never use the CD player on the radio...I usually use a changer. So, when i replace my 8+ year old changer I will buy one that will play MP3 and it will work with my HU.

mp3s are definately the way to go. got meself the kdc-x859 and loving it totally. ripped 8 audio cds into mp3 and stored them on cd. so instead of carrying 8 disc, i just carry 1 and not have the hassle of changing. just make sure that when you rip the cds, the quality is set to highest.

to each his own. i prefer cd changer over mp3 capability, the fact is, you cant download all yoru music at teh bitrate your gonna want, i dont want to rely on other people for the music i enjoy most, as to quality concerns.

napster had it right, that mp3s arent piracy, they are sampling. a sample of the music at a lower quality than cd quality, ill enjoy my changers, i believe

I love my mp3 players. I have the JVC Sh-99 and it works great. I have around 8000 mp3s (a lot of cds I have ) and its much easier and cheaper to do mp3 than it is to do a changer. But like whiterabbit said, to each his own
