Computer
Here's a good thread aboot that.
I plan to go mini-itx in the coming months myself.

Interesting, I was shopping at my local Frys and saw the Mini-ITX motherboard from Via.. and got the same idea.. It's a tiny motherboard, integrated processor/sound&video out. I also saw a nice Mini-ITX case, with DC input, perfect setup for a car with low power draw and no need for an invertor. The only thing about the Mini-ITX case is that it only had a slot for an Optical CD-ROM drive (So you'd have to get a laptop style one). Anyway, for $130 for the motherboard and $80 for the case, It's around a $200 computer.
The only problem I see is what someone else asked, how do you get mouse/KB control from the front? I guess you could run a wireless mouse/keyboard device and mount it in the dash and keep an optical mouse in your lap or something.
Another option I was considering was mounting a new TabletPC in my car. It alreay has a BIG LCD that's a touchscreen and runs WindowsXP. Great option, but costs ~$2000

for the mouse and keyboard cables you could spend an arm and a leg for cables long enough to fish through your car or you could extend the cables using cat5 ethernet cable

im not looking to plug much into it, just a GPS, and the other basic stuff like a roll up keyboard, and maybe find some way to integrate it into my securtiy system have like a wireless nic and have it synced with my Ipaq, have some car automation, turn my lights on, start the car, monitor it. etc.. i think this maybe a little difficult though.
Hooking up all that stuff to yer computer and using a wireless connection would be sweet as hell.
It'll be pretty hard to do because you are most likely gonna have to build a connector of your own
design and then have a program to activate all the electronics. Also your computer is going to have to
be running to do anything. As an everyday thing probably not going to be battery effecient.
Would be VERY sweet to show off though.
There may be an easy way to do it that I'm thinking to
hard to realize or just blatently don't know cuz I am a bit of a car n00b..... bah this computer geek ****
just doesn't translate into car geek.
Anyhow...... that's my rambling. Don't really read too much into
it and you'll be good.
