Amp cutting out. Help Please.
Ok I am having a problem with an install I just did and I need some help.
My system is:
Mb Quart 6.5 components (front)
Mb Quart 6x9s (rear)
Alpine Head Unit
Soundstream 5 channel amp
Anyways, what is happening is this. Whenever the headunit reaches a high volume setting the amp will cut out regardless of gain setting and honestly doesn't play very loud. I noticed this before and fixed it by changing the polarity on on of my speaker wires. It was fixed. Amp never cut out and screamed. Now the amp is cutting out again and not going very loud. BTW.. the amp stays nice and cool through all of this...
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

The facts:
1) it did the same thing before
2) wiring was the cause
The no brain answer is start double checking the wiring. Maybe have someone help you. They will catch what you are missing.
Soundstream makes good amps. Just like you said it should be screaming.

Bad Ground or Bad Power causing insufficient power to the amp.
- make sure the ground is as big as the power.
- make sure the ground is secure.
- make sure the metal was bare, NO paint etc.
As far as polarity on a speaker it makes no difference to the amp or to a speaker .... but you are using a crossover for the components. That may cause an issue if wired wrong. Not really sure on that one.
Overall though if all speakers match in polarity the bass will be stronger.

Yeah it could be the ground... I scraped it as best as i could, but it could be better... So is it bascially that as the volume gets louder, the amperage draw of the amp overpowers the ground if it is not done correctly? Which would explain why it works at low volume???
Thanks again
Thanks again
Current will be limited via the wires not only into the amp, but out.
Get sandpaper and scrape that metal really well. Shiney is the key here. Plus make sure the screw is very secure.
This will also help eliminate altenator whine in the system.
