Subwoofer Wiring????
Hey everyone, got a quick question. To am not to sure how to wire my JL Audio 12w3 sub, but I have an idea and I need to be sure. There is a positive and negative connection on both sides of my sub. Do I get four pieces of 8 guage wires, solder the wires to both positive and negative connections on either side of the sub and then connect the two positive and two negative at the terminal on the back of the box? Here is the data sheet on my sub, look under the 12w3-D4 section.
Also, outside the box, when I run the postive and negative wire from the back of the sub enclosure to the amplifier, do those need to be 8 guage as well? I would really appreciate your help!

if its a dual 4 ohm speaker get speaker wire and connect the 2 negative terminals and get another speaker wire and connect the 2 positive terminals
one positive and one negative terminal should have a white dot or something differant from the others ( im sure if it makes a differance on JL's)
then if there is a differance on one set of terminals those are the terminals that u connect the speaker wire to the terminal on the box

You don't need to connect the voicecoils with 8 ga wire. 12 ga is good enough. The length of the wire that will connect the voicecoils is short enough that a small diameter wire will not affect current flow. Go to JL's website and look at the PDF's they have for their W3's and it will tell you how to wire your subs. Just make sure you're on the PDF for the ohm load your voicecoils carry.

I did, it shows two way to do it and says each one yields so many ohms when done. One of them you connect both the negative and positive connections and then connect them to the port on the back of the box and another one you connect on of the negative and positive connections and then you connect another positive and negative connections and then just plug them in to the back of the box.
I think W3's are 4 ohms so there are 2 ways to wire them... into 4 ohms or 1 ohm. If you have an amp that can handle a 1 ohm load then you can wire them either way. If your amp can't handle a 1 ohm load then wire them into 4 ohms.
