$300 to spend
Alright , i got around $300 to spend. I have a totally stock set-up right now. I want to get a system at least started.
Im thinking starting with a pioneer deh 6400 (??, its like $279.99)
Good?
I wanted to get the 4400 cause i found a place that has it with red lights but we need the Organic display.
Any thoughts?

Actually if you go to thezeb.com it costs way less.... you could get the premier P740MP for $247.99.
Added mp3 compatibility, better quality, and the premier warrenty. I have this head unit and am
completely satisfied with it although I am a car audio n00b.

I second that choice..later on just swap the swap the speakers and you'll have a pretty good sounding car
actually, not to step on anyone's toes, but before you upgrade the speakers I'd get a 4channel amp. I have a Pheonix Gold TI 500.4 hooked up to the factory speakers right now and they sound AWESOME. I'm waiting for the Q-form kick panels to come out so i can put in my "good" speakers, but personally i'd do the amp first. If you're doing this step by step you can get a bigger jump in quality and a HUGE jump in volume out of adding an amp. If you just add better speakers chances are that they wont really shine unless you add an amp to them anyways. In my dealings i have found most aftermarket speakers need amped. Well dont need but.......

the OEM speakers are really soft and suffer from alot of cone flex...replacing the HU and amping them will have the same effect..the Cones themselves will distort before they see enough power for a good HU to distort them....
