Ok, my battery kept dying once a week on my 2001 coupe. I installed an Optima and now that is dead! What can be wrong? Oh, and the car does not move. It is just sitting in my garage all winter but I do start it once a week. My amp is not connected but my alarm is. Viper alarm. Thanks for the help!

yeah but really the alternator has nothing to do with it if the car is not running...it just sits in my garage...i thought it would last more than a week though.

Which Optima did you get? I recently was researching the Optimas because i just bought one...on Optima's website it says that it is better to use a yellow top if you are storing a car for the winter that has an alarm. It is really strange that your battery would die so easily...I have left my dome light on twice all night, and I have played my radio without the car running many times and no problems! I don't run the car anymore without the car running though.

I got the red top....i am thinking it might be the alarm ground?? not sure if that would do it or not. What do you all think?

Sounds like something is pulling on the battery...hmmm..could it be the alarm...I don't know...I wouldn't think it would drain the battery in a week unless it's pulling more than it should. However, I have never left a car sitting for a week with an alarm on.

How long do you let her run when you do your once a week thing.

Do you have any other things that you have installed in your car that may be draining the battery?

actually i only let her run for like 2 minutes just to make sure she starts.

nothing else is hooked up that would drain the battery that I did. The amp is not hooked up and the cd player is in my hatchback.

Maybe you need to let it run longer or something. I know when your battery goes dead you are supposed to leave the car running for like 15-20mins or drive a certain amt of miles. I don't know if this applies here. The battery does loose it's charge over time doesn't? A week shouldn't do it though. Unless you starting it for a sec isn't really doing anything and it's pretty much like it is sitting there w/o ever being started...I don't know.

You don't keep the alarm ON while it's in the garage do ya?

So, you didn't have this problem until you put her away for winter? No problems when you are using her as your daily driver?

I would try disconnecting the battery for a week and then see what happens when you go for your once a week start. When you reconnect it, if it starts just fine something is pulling on the batt, if it doesn't, you probably need to drive it around the block or leave it running for a little bit once a week.
