Remote Starter
I am thinking of a remote starter (yes I've searched).
I understand the liablity issues on the manual tranny, however Mohawk once posted a message on a neutral sensor, he stated:
"The car won't start unless it is in Neutral"
Could someone elaborate on this? Or if you come across this message mohawk, what are you using?
Thanks,
Aldini

was that mo or me? i have a neutral sensor in my car, it wont let the remote start function unless the car is in neutral. its a magnetic switch, the witch is located on my side of the shifter, and there is a magnet epoxied to the stick itself. if hte car is in ANY gear, the switch wont trip.
thats the easiest way to do it........
two other options are lever switches that get tripped when the car is in gear, that would require two switches, or use a tilt sensor, i think that would need ot be too sensitive tho.
mag switch can be had at radioshack for less than $4. and im sure you have a magnet lying around hte house.

If your going to get a car starter for your car, make sure it is a manual transmission model. I have been installing car starters for quite a few years now and believe me dont get a generic one and try to add any switch. I have a manual transmission model in my car. This is how they work.
All car starters have your basic connections of course: ignition, accessory, 12v, starter, ground, parking lights and brake. For saftey reasons you can also add a hoodpin. A manual car starter also adds doorpin and emergency brake. What happens is when you get to where your going you putting your car in neutral and take it out of gear obviously, then hit the start button on the transmitter, at that time the parking lights on the vehicle come on and you turn off the key. The car will stay running and when you get out and close the door the car shuts off. If you dont do that procedure then your car won't remote start. If at any time you go out to your car and open the door you will have to go thru the process again. It seems like a pain in the *** but it definatly worth not having your car take off when you go to start it.
Our cars are one of the easiest to do a remote car starter in and if you want any help with installation let me know. Also don't waste your money on a DEI 555U (mag key interface). I can show you how to make with a relay and about 3 feet of remote wire.
These are some of the best remote car starters on the market right now.

What I wrote is my professional opion, your welcome to your own ideas as well. Most people on here are looking for a simple answer and making 2 extra connections, which are both right under the dash, is alot easier then taking apart your shifter boot and waiting for epoxy to dry. If it works for you then great, but with a manual transmission car starter there is no reason to add a neutral sensor.
