Alpine Alpine ALPINE. I've had Pioneer in the past, but I just put a 7874 (only a $200 unit) in my girlfriend's car tonight, and WOW. She's got two factory 4's in the front, and two Pioneer 5 1/4's in the back, and the deck still sounds amazing. Very solidly constructed too. However, I've also heard good things about the Pioneer 7400, except that it sometimes takes a few seconds between MP3 files.

If you want to play MP3's the 7400MP is a good choice..if you don't want MP3 capability a Clarion DB725 would also be a grand choice. They use better DAC's than both Alpine and Pioneer in the same price range.
If you want a deck now is the time to get one on ebay. Everybody is making room for next years stuff.DEH-P7400 MP
Ikesound.com has had that Pioneer HU for that price for quite some time, if you shop around you can find low prices like that all the time

All HU's have display problems in our cars.. ALL do....
Lower end eclipse's aren't really worth it...their good yes...but not worth..only the 5000 series up is worth every penny..
Kenwood excelons are allright too...I'm personally not a kenwood fan because of a history of problems I've had with them....but many other's swear by them and haven't a had a problem ever...as for Eclipse HU's cost....worth it.. little sexpensive...buy ONLY from authorized dealers for HU's though..everything else is 50/50 stolen..

But aren't some displays better than others? I got an opportunity to hear an eclipse HU for the first time the other day, and OH MY GOSH it was the best thing I have ever heard. But being able to see the display.... sadly... is high up there on my list of things I look for in a HU. So is the eclipse at least somewhat readable? Thanks!

I know I should just get over it already and buy a better freaking HU but I would like to be able to see what radio stations I'm tuning into or what CD track I'm on.... or maybe what time it is? Oh well... I will honestly probably just force myself to get a good HU some day cause I'm sure I won't be truely satisfied w/ the sound until I do! Thanks for the info Mohawk!
