youd need wire and a switch.... negative from neon you ground, positive from neon you wire it to the switch, and from the switch to a positive source

Here's how I did mine...

Turn off your car before you do any of this.

First, go to this DIY to take off all the parts to get to the accessory port (aka cigerette lighter). Link

After you open it up, you can see the back part of the port, you'll notice they there are two metal strips on the back next to where the wires connect. One is a ground and one is a current.

Take another wire (I used a power cord from a broken clock) and attach one wire to one of the strips and the other wire to the other strip. Make sure they are not touching one another and then tape then down with electrical tape.

Now, you can run the wire to whereever you want.

To hook up the lights, all you have to do is splice the wires on the neons. There should be two different color wires on the neon. Usually black is ground... But it doesn't really matter that much if you're just puttin in two neons.

Take the wires of the same color on the neons and one of the wires that you attached to the port, strip them, and twist the metal parts together. Then cover it with electrical tape (or a cover if you have one).

Do the same thing with the other color wires on teh neons and the remaining wire from the port. Electrical tape that.

Now, you should be ready to go.

Turn on your car and they should light up.

If the lights flicker or don't go on at all and you smell a slight burning, you probably blew the fuse (as I did). It's a 15amp fuse that's cheap and easily replacable. If you blow it, it's in the fusebox under the steering wheel. Just check the manual for which one it is. If you let the wires touch anytime while the car is on, the fuse will blow.

I hope that helped. If you want me to explain how to put a switch in, just pm me.

what if your lights have a cigarete lighter adapter? i think there's a transformer in there, but was curious if anyone knew how i could hide this thing. splicing neon wires w/ +12V source does not work.

dont want to get rid of the cig lighter adapter? go to an auto parts store, and buy a car power outlet for 3 bucks, wire it in, but keep it hidden... voila

Get a switch, it should have 3 prongs, ACC, Power and Ground.
Your neons should have 2 wires going into a AC power thing, cut that thing off and split the wires. Figure out which one is power and ground.

Now get each neons ground and the ground from the switch and ground all 3 of them to a screw (i used one under the center console). Now run a power wire from your battery to the power prong of the switch. Last, run both power wires from the neons to an inline fuse to the ACC prong on the switch and thats it. .(the fuse should be about 10 amps). You can get all this stuff at wal-mart for less than $10.

If you have any Q's feel free to pm me or IM me at donk424

When you take out the console between the seats, there will be places in there to hide the transformers. What you want to do is cut the wire somewhere between the cigarette adapter and the transformer. Then, just 2-sided tape the transformer inside the console. I also added a switch in the little storage compartment next to the E-brake. This is pretty easy. When you take off the cover for that area, just drill a hole (or remove a few of the screws and you can pry it open just enough to slide the wires in). Then, take one of the wires and seperate it from the other. Cut that wire, run it into the compartment and stick it on a switch. There are basically two kinds of switches. 2-prong and 3-prong. The 2-prongs are your basic ones. All you have to do is to hook up each end of the cut wire to each prong (make sure they do not touch). Then, you got your neon with a switch. The three prong is more complicated. All your light up switches will be three prongs. For those, you have to cut both wires and figure out which one is the current and which one is ground. Really complicated if you don't understand any electronics. From there, just hook the wires in their respective places. Generally, the current goes on one end, the load goes in the middle, and the ground goes on the other end. Basically, if you don't have any electrical knowledge, go with the 2-prong.

If you got any questions, PM me!

actually, i'm an electrical major

i just don't know where to connect the power to that cigarette plug. i tried some things, but mostly just got nothing or sparks. i have 2 neons, i hooked them together running into the same transformer, and it goes ok, i use the switch on the transformer. i just couldn't get rid of the ugly transformer piece. but again, these lights do not run off of a 12V source, i.e. cutting off that adapter does not work.

so where do i connect the 12V input on one of these adapters? any clues?

thanx for the input all.

You lost me somewhere in there bud. You say the lights don't run off a 12V source, but then you ask where to connect the 12V input... What kind of adapter are you talking about? the transformer runs off the cigarette lighter @12V right?

i want to know where the contacts might be on this transformer, where to connect the wires directly so i can hide this thing, if it's possible, instead of plugging it in like i currently do.

do i need to buy another piece? to plug the transformer into?

i wish these were 12V lights, would be so much easier.

I guess it depends on your Transformer... I suppose you could just hide the transformer and hardwire in the 12V connection from behind the console.
