Question about wiring and amp problems
I have a question about a friend's system. He currently has the Kenwood Excelon 1000w amp and 2 JL 10W6 subs. Now, the amp is 2 channel 2 ohm stable and the subs are DVC 6 ohm. He has the voice coils wired in parallel and one channel to each sub (so each channel is pushing a load of 3 ohms). For some reason, his amp keeps cutting off. Are the subs wired wrong or can it be one of the settings on the amp? I wasn't the one to install the system, so I don't know where it's grounded or any of that other stuff.
i had this problem too. except i had 2 audiobahns at 12 ohm. i went to some local audio store and they told me the easiest way to fix this problem...but not the cheapest...is to buy another woofer (have 3 total)...hook them up in series at 12 ohm each woofer, to match up with my 4 ohm stable amp. so i'm thinking your friend could buy another woofer and hook them all up at 6 ohm and run ur amp at 2 ohm mono. just a thought though

I usually buy off the internet - ebay being my primary source. Other than that, I've shopped from Sound Image in Van Nuys, CA...a few places in downtown, LA. IF you need custom installs and stuff, SolarCraft in Burbank, CA is great.
vinyl, try paris. i really dont know anything about them, but they are the 4rth store in the chain i work(ed) at.
if you want guarranteed good work, drive to san luis obispo. Lombards autosounds in slo has the best installer in teh central coast, i can say that with 100% certainty. has been installing since before i was born. we are a rather expensive shop, however.....
as to the amp cutting, how long does it take? if it cuts, then it has some sort of protect. thermal protection, clipping protection, etc. something is causing it to go into protect, its just a matter of figuring out what.
my earthquake will go into protect after 2-3 hours of hard play. you can bet i can cook an egg on that heat sink at that time tho
