Changer location?

So I'd like to mount a CD changer under the driver's seat of a 2001 sedan. The Pioneer 6-disk is 2 1/2 high, and a 12-disk is a little over 3 1/2. What size changers (or amps) have people been able to mount under the seats?

Also, there's a raised area under the seat that's kinda like this:

================ seat

____/OOOO\________ floor

Is the raised area wide enough to mount a changer, or have people been placing them in front/behind the bump?

Thanks,
scooter

i had a pioneer 12 disk under the passanger seat...it sucked ! cause u have to get down low to load it and whenever people moved the seat it scraped....with a 6 disk it should be fine.....im in the process of cutting out a square in the glove box and mounting it facing out like how a radio looks so all u see is the face to load CDs... better not copy me im messing...

i know you were only kidding, but in all honesty, if people are asking about your install, most likely they dont have the motivation to do it themselves.

Did you have it mounted on top of the bump, or in front? This was partially talked about in this thread, but no mention of the clearance under the seat. I'm afraid that the bar used to move the seat back/forward will be in the way and block the changer opening.

i did it the lazy way...and traditional way...in the trunk
i mean...ur not gonna keep changing the cd's out of it...that's what it's for...to load up ur cd's so u don't have to change them while you're driving. but if you wanna hide it...the 6 disc changer should fit fine under the seat

Under the drivers seat is way better then under the passengers seat because there are no springson the drivers side. However you have to get out of the car to load it which sucks.

In the trunk with huge subs=skipping

I mounted mine in my trunk. It's out of the way, hidden (until you open your trunk obviously), and easily accessible. Though if you want to replace CDs in your changer while on the fly then it won't be such a bad idea to have it inside the cabin. Underneath the seat always has the possibility of being kicked with people in the back. Glove box usually works real well.

This may not be an option for you, unless your HU is old or sucks. But why not get a HU with MP3 compatibility and forget about a changer?

Lets see here, 1 cd-r with 700megs capacity can hold 140 songs if each were 5mb each, give or take a meg on each song.
A 12-disk changer holds 12 disks, maybe 10 songs each, for a total of 120 songs, give or take a few songs on each disk.

You can keep all your music in one cd wallet and just change 1 cd-r instead of 12 cd's.
Now if they'd just make a quality cd changer that can read mp3s and your whole music collection could be at your fingertips. They may already, I haven't looked into it lately.

Edit: The Alpine CHA-S634, Kenwood Excelon KDC-CX89, Sony CDX-T70MX and CDX-757MX changers play mp3s. Very cool. I may have to the the kenwood if it works with my HU.

Did I SAY anything about downloading mp3s? No. You can rip the cd's you have to put them all on a cd.
