add a sub using stock HU?

Hey, i'm new here and an absolute newbie when it comes to car audio. I just wanted to know if i could just add an amp and sub into my car keeping everythign else stock. Like, can it be directly connected into the stock headunit, and how will it sound? I wanted to add a JBL 600x1 mono amp and a kicker L5 10".... please don't flame me for this stupid question... i jsut simply don't know...

When u say that the speakers sound so much better, does it mean that adding the sub will change how the stock speakers sound? or do u mean that just by changing HU, the stock speakers sound better than they originally did when u bought the car.

he's not talking about changing the HU he's talking about this stupid little thing that takes speaker wires and turns em into RCAs.. don't just add a sub to stock.. all you'll hear is bass. It's a waste of money. Not to mention that those converters kill sound quality. Start with the HU and speakers, do the subs later.

EDIT: he was talking about changing the HU too, I didn't read the whole thing oops..

JL Audio has a good diagram of how to add an amp and sub to a stock system. Check it out here:
