WOW! What a difference!
Well, I finally got everything figured out with my new audio stuff thanks to some members from here for the help! I'm running off the stock deck with a new 300 watt pioneer 4 channel amp, new infinity 605cs components up front and then the pioneer 6x9 3-ways in the back that I installed a while ago. After I got the wiring worked out and figured out where the alternator whine was coming from, I finally had time to play with the amp settings and got it to where I am truly impressed with the new sound coming from my stereo. That was probably the best money I have spent so far. When I installed the components up front, a friend and myself took the original components and we cut the midrange out of its frame. We then screwed the infinity midrange into the stock frame and used it as a spacer. Clipped right in and everything! I REALLY wish I had taken pictures because it would be a great way to mount speakers there. I know some people fabricate their own kind of mount but if you do it right and you don't ever plan on putting the stock speaker back in then this was perfect. Anyways, I just wanted to say thanks to everybody who put up with my stupid questions and helped me get the screw ups worked out of my system. I'm sooo very thrilled with the new sound! Thanks!
well.... My alt. whine was actually a cause of stupidity (well not mine, but a friend who helped during the install). I went to crutchfield's help center and read a little about what causes alternator whine and I found one thing discussed was a ground loop. Basically what I did was this.... when I installed the infinity reference speakers up front I cut off the factory speaker wiring harness and ran new speaker wire from where the connector was cut back to the amp. Then ran wires from the amp back up to the speaker (I'm using line level inputs), and the stupidity part? Well apparently, when my friend did the passenger door as I did the driver's door, he wired up two positives because of how the wires are once you cut off the wiring harness. I figured my problem probably was unusual which is why I never posted anything about it. But if it helps you then great! Good Luck!
Two biggest causes of altenator whine.
A) Running RCAs close to power / ground wires
B) Bad connections, especially amp ground wires
Rule of thumb is to run RCAs down the side of the car that is opposite the amp power wire. Also throw some extra wire loom or something over these wires anywhere they come near each other. The current in power wires tend to cause interferrence in RCAs since they are so low voltage and rather susceptable. This is where high voltage equipment is useful, 2V, 4V, 5V, 8V, etc.... In theory the higher voltage the less susceptable the equipment is to interferrence.
Also make sure the amp ground wire is secured very tightly to bare metal, and make sure the metal is ground bare so its really shiny. Use a dremel or sandpaper and do the job right. Generally the shorter the better also.
I had my install put in and had major issues with alt/ whine. I was pissed and argued w/ the installer. I went home and redid where the cables layed next to each other in the trunk. I placed wire wrap and then wire loom over the RCAs in the back. Then I redid the ground wire. Dremeled the hell out of the metal where it attatched and then put it back nice and tight. Now I don't have any alt. whine at all.

Also, when hooking up a deck...any deck, dont ground it to the harness. take the time and ground it like you would ground an amp to the chassis of the car. It is not fun to pull the deck back out to do this after trying everything else. this has happend twice and will never happen again.
