new head unit and oem keyless entry - questions

I did a search but couldnt find anything. What do you do with the factory headunit because it is used to program the remotes for the factory keyless entry. I heard that on the 6th gen civics, they actually hide the factory head unit down behind the new one and they are both wired up still. Is there a different wiring harness I need to get if I have keyless entry? Anyone have any problems with the factory keyless entry after installing a new head unit?

Its a myth, you'll be fine.......
Do you think all of the rest of us on this forum who have systems (most) have to manually lock and unlock our doors? Ha, we're too lazy for thet shiet. And I dont know about your car, but that remote is the only way I can lock my doors, unless I use the key.

Just get the regular wiring harness and adaptor kit for the dash and you'll be fine..... promise!

all honda's require the key on the driver door...pssst, hold open the inside door handle and then you can lock it.

Actually on older Hondas, they did wire in the keyless entry system into the radio. You had to wire the radio and move it to another potion of the car to use the OEM keyless entry.

On 7th gens, the keyless entry is a seperate module and you will have no problems simply replacing the head unit.

On 96-98 civic's with factory keyless the radio had to remain in the car for the keyless module to work. Honda, however realized this was a retarded idea so stopped doing it in 99.

you don't need a key to lock it if you are outside and want to lock the door? all honda's are made so you have to do that, unless of course you are inside, dehr
