front speaker mounting?!?!
ok i just finished installing the back speakers which were as much of a pain in the as everyone has been saying. now i thought the front speakers going to be a breeze. i have a pair of 2-way pioneers that id like to put in the front but there arent any screw holes for the speakers and plus the space is way to shallow and small to fit a speaker in there. this whole aftermarket speaker installation experience has made me believe that honda DOES NOT WANT AFTERMARKET SPEAKERS IN THEIR CARS. so what should i do? ive heard of spacers.... is that what i need? i cant use the original speaker housing cuz i broke that while taking it out. so what should i do?
oh and also, the wires coming out of the speakers are just wires with no connector head on it? where can i get a connector that would fit into the civic's harness? thanks all.

you can do a search and find all this out pretty easily. for thespacers you can get them from sounddomain.com they are 8.95 i think. i just ordered some so ill let you know how they work, but they are made for our cars so they should fit. check there. as for the wire harness im not positive what you hsould do since i am installing components which includes a crossover to wire to and a tweeter. hope this helps

I just installed my front speakers this weekend. The spacers I bought at Circuit City were too small. You'll have to file them down in order to make the inner diameter large enough for the speaker to pass through them. Or you can purchase some MDF and make your own spacers which is what I decided to do.
I got the Scosche SS65 spacers at SoundDomain, and I got my Pioneer 3-ways at Crutchfield. The speakers fit perfectly -- I used the spacer itself as a template for drilling the holes. As far as the wiring harnesses for the speakers, Crutchfield includes those free with a speaker purchase, but I think you can buy those from SoundDomain as well. So you drilled holes into the car huh. What about the Scosche SAH6, which are custom made for the 2001+ Civic? Do those utilize any existing holes in the door? Or drilling holes into the car is something you have to do no matter which way you go about putting aftermarket speakers in the front?
Another thing I heard is that it would be a better idea to use the factory speaker housing because it protects your speakers from any water that seaps through in the door from the windows. Do the spacers space it out enough so the water cant reach it?

Yes, you will have to drill holes, but it's not a big deal. I did not know about the SAH6 spacers...I might have ordered those instead of the SS65's. As far as water seeping in, I don't see how that would be a problem; if you'd rather use the housing, I think you would have to be somewhat creative about installing an aftermarket speaker into it. Good luck!

Use the spacer and some type of sound deadening material. The speaker adapter is Metra part# 72-7800, you can pick it up at Best Buy or Circuit City for about $5.

putting the front speakers in the 2k1 civics is unlike putting speakers into any other car in the whole entire world. What the hell is this bs. i used the factory housing for the speakers then after i thought everything was done, the door panel wouldnt go back on cuz the housing + the speakers were too thick. im assuming you guys didnt have any problems putting the door panels back on using the spacers, right?
yes, installing speakers in our cars is a pain in the butt. I am not satisfied with my install, so I am going to tear it all apart one of these days and redo it. Now that I know what I am up against, I know what I need to go get from the store.

I drilled holes in mine, too. It was simple. I used the template that came with my speakers. Then 4 sheetmetal screws held it on. There is a small gap between the back of the speaker and the door. It's not flush. The hole provided by Honda is too small for a normal speaker to fit.
