capacitor or not?

Do I need a capacitor or not? My lights dim when the bass hits. I've been told the only thing to do is get a bigger altenator but I just didn't want to go to the trouble or expense. I thought a capacitor would help this problem and also relieve some stress on the altenator. If a capacitor won't help me, can you tell what it is they are suppose to do. Thanks

I'd go ahead and get the capacitor. Adding more things to your electrical system only adds more strain to your alternator. (I think!)

Minor dimming is no prob.. a cap will take care of it if it's annoying you..if your getting some major diming.. a new alternator is the way to go
