Rep Power: 0 Capacitor or No Capacitor
My system consists of JL 500/1 amp going to two 12' JLW3D6 and a 300/4 going to Boston Pro Series Component Speakers. Yes, my lights flicker inside and out. I know what a capacitor is, but I can't convince myself to spent the ~$150.00 bucks for a 1 farad capacitor. I realize the lights will stop flickering once installed, but what are the other benefits from a capacitor? There aren't any sound improvements, are there? Thanks

Rep Power: 313 there are......
---------------> ZERO <--------------------
benefits to a capacitor exept for the potential to remove light dimming.
absolutely no other possible conCIEVABLE benefit

Rep Power: 0 actually, if your amps were entirely unregulated there MIIIIIIIGHT be an increase in transient response, and this is a HEAVILY debated topic, but, your jl amps are regulated, or so jl claims, so therefore youd have the same amount of power regardless of voltage. So for you, power output would be identical regardless of electrical conditions. In laymens terms, with your setup, cap would only decrease dimming as mr whiterabbit said

Rep Power: 0 if you decide to get a cap. check out stuff on ebay, I got mine NEW with a digital read out for like 80$ shipped. I think that the majority of them are made about the same so theres no need to spend 150$ on something that you can get for 80.. but i may be wrong.

Rep Power: 0 A 1 farad cap probably won't stop your lights from dimming. It will help a little but the lights will probably still dim. I have a 15 farad cap and my headlights still dim a little bit. I really don't think your going to see that much of an improvement tho with just 1 farad.

Rep Power: 313 its all install dependant, i have a 2 farad capacitor that was given to me. i have it hooked up directly to my battery by abotu 5 feet of 8 guage wire, so theoretically it shoudlnt really do much for me. combine that with the 2400 rms im running (give or take) and youd think it will do next to nothing.
but in my car it does a very good job of smoothing out voltage spikes.
best way to do it is to jsut try and see. might help, might not. in my car i have to listen to bass intesive music very loud to dim my lights noticibly
