How far should the mid be from the tweeter?
How far should the mid be from the tweeter?
I was gonna buy a pair of component speaker for my front,
and the guy at the shop told me that ideally, it should only
be 12" apart from each other, so that the sound they generate
wouldn't be to far from each other.
Is this true? or what?
I was palnning to put the tweeter on or near the door handle,
or on the "A" pillar.
Any suggestion(s)?
Thanks

I have my focal mid in the door in the stock spot and the tweeter screwed into the stock kickpanel. They are less than 12" apart. I like it better than the stock tweeter location because you aren't blasted with high frequency sound. The crossovers on the components have a setting that lets you adjust the tweeter for its location. Near the door pilar is fine, I didn't want to drill into my door panels so I put the tweeter in the kick panels. Play music with the tweeters not secured and move them around until you find the place where you like it the most.

the tweeter can be VERY far away and stll image perfectly, its more important to get teh distances to the ear equalized than it is to get teh tweet close to teh mid.
puttin gthe tweet in the a pillar is to raise the stage. generally it kills the stage too, but it wouldnt be teh first time someone has put teh tweet up there and gotten VERY GOOD imaging.
if you take the time to install everything nicely, you will find it almost doesnt matter where you put teh twetet, it will sound simply amazing...

from what I know the tweets should be either less than 2" from the mids or more than 7" from them, anywhere in between and you can induce noise between the 2 which means nasty distotion.
whoever told you that was full of it.
caraudio when all is said and done, is actually not cery mathematical at all. you cant put yoru stuff into an equasion and see if it will sound good or not.
of course you cna put a tweet between 2 and 7 inches! in fact, its impossible to put it closer than 2 inches! (center of mid = 3 inches away, tweet another inch past that)
90%install, 10% equipment.
if you made a nice install with the tweets pinting at teh dash, it will (and has in the past) sound better than the tweet next to the mid in kicks down low.

and ben has documantation that says MDF isnt sealed. hmmmmmm......
and JL has documentation that says that a "purist" should run a box that is too small and might cause boomyness. hmmmm......
and the communists said they found a perfect type of govornment. hmm......
and BOSS says they make a 2000 watt amp that costs less than $100. hmmmm.......
and the ciggarette companies deny that smoking causes cancer. hmmm.......
and there are hundreds of people out there that say they can hear teh difference between amp circuitry. hmmmm........
there are jsut as many hundreds who say they can hear the difference after adding a stiffening cap. hmmmm.....
there are many people out there that trust manufacter specification blindly without experimentation to see what will and will not work for his particular equipment and install abilities. hmm......

Where My Tweeters are Installed
I like this location besides the fact that I have to be careful not to kick the tweeter off when I get in the car. But to date, I haven't and neither have my passengers. I like this location far better than the stock location because I don't get the ringing in my ears like I got before when I had the tweeters in the stock spots.
