I've got Dynamat xtream all over my trunk, but I still can't stop the ish from rattling. The rattle are decreased a lot from what they were before the dynamat, but they still get on my nerves. Some suggestions please

I put clear silicone in all the tiny spaces were there was space between two pieces of metal, then I used expandable foam on all the large empty spaces, then I used two layers of ramm60. No rattles at all, except from my rear window and front door locks. Hope that helps.

where can i get the foam from ? To get rid of the rear window rattle all you need to do is remove the rear deck and stuff some crap back there to tighten things up. I used the material from those egg crate bed pad. It worked wonders.

You don't need any expading foam..

You need to stop your rear deck from rattling and tighten your trunk latch. That is all.. Our trunks without any sound deadening don't rattle with 140Db's of pressure on them.. but the trunk latch and rear deack sure as hell do [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]. Remove the rear deck. Sound deaden it . and place 1/4" thick foam between the plastic and metal. this takes care of the problem. efore you go spending insane amounts of $$$ on Dynamat extreme. Find out exactly what is rattling first...

far be it for me to agree with you mohawk =p

if you solved your rear deck rattle by moving the latch, your lucky. didnt work for me. furthermore, you dont need expanding foam if thatll solve it [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]

but if your me, where the latch didnt do it, then expanding foam is the next cheapest solution, at $3 a can [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]


edit: and expanding foam WILL cut a majority of teh rattles from the lid, if not all (excluding plate, of course)

a Bead of clear silicone in the cracks will suffice as well.. now were talking only the trunk lid here.. the rear deck is a much worse problem to solve...the trunk lid's easy..tighten the latch. Adjust the rubber bumpers, silicone the cracks. and use thich carpet tape behind the license plate.

I covered every last square inch of my trunk with two layers of MiniGARD PRO. It's an el-cheapo dynamat substitute, I posted about it a few months ago. This GREATLY helped the rattles heard outside of the car. My interior is now rattle free as well - only a very mild "rattle" coming from the rear deck when the bass is kicking and there aren't any mids or highs covering it up. Actually, it sounds more like air rushing through - might go back in that area and plug up any holes.

I'm still getting some rattles from the trunk lid - just above the tail-lights. I have a 1.7EL - the rattle seems to be coming from either side of the Acura emblem. I put two layers of miniGARD there, helped but still rattling. I'm gonna fill the whole damn trunk lid with expanding foam tomorrow.

By the way, tightening the trunk latch does NOT get rid of all your rattle woes!!! Yes, it helps a great deal, but other areas have to be addressed. My latch is at the tightest setting, and have the two rubber stoppers pulled out at the corners. Still rattling - but again, this helped quite a bit.

i have a layer of RF dead skin, expanding foam and dynomat original on my plate...used a sample they sent my shop...my latch is lowered a little and thats the only spot it rattles

Press on the center part of your rear deck ... right above the center brake light...

See if it rattles now.. if it doesn't... place something like a sock between that and the rear window.

i found one really annoying rattle coming from the vent thingy on the left side of the trunk. I just put alittle electritians tape around the edge of it and that fixed that one.

what is bead of clear silicone? where can i get it? the rattling behind the license plate (not caused by the license plate...but inside the trunk) rattles like crazy! can i put this clear silicone stuff inbetween there the two metal pieces in the trunk?

What exactly is this "expanding foam" and where can I find it? I assume at Walmart or somethin'. What use is it actually intended for though? So I know where to find it. Also...you are supposed to REMOVE the rubber stoppers on the trunk lid? I read before about moving the trunk latch down to make it tighter. havne't done that yet. I don't have much rattle. Still it does get annoying. You can hear it outside the car a bit. Luckily I have seats inside my car and that's where I sit when I drive it.
