I think i might be heading on the right track with my system. But there are still a couple of upgrades to be made. Maybe a new sub (an L5, L7, IDMAX maybe). I want to run it on my Phoenix Gold XS2500 (500wrms@4ohms, so a dual 2 ohm perhaps). What do you guys suggest? I'm trying to keep my costs down, but i will pay more if neccesary. This system is just for my personal listening pleasure, nothing too serious. Then I'm also considering adding new 6x9s and running them off deck power (just to satisfy rear passengers). But that's only a maybe. If one of you thinks it would be worth it to upgrade my components to Focals or something from my infinity reference's. I will also be amping the components.
So far I have a Nakamichi 45Z, Infinity 605CS components (running off deck power for another week or so), Stock 6x9s, and a 12" Rockford HE2 running off my Phoenix Gold at 8ohms (approx 250wrms). That's it for now. I'll also be adding brown bread to the equation.

i would say save your money on the 6x9's and use that to upgrade either your components or your sub.. don't worry about the rear passengers its actually better if you don't have speakers back there cause then they can actually talk or sit comfortable instead of some speaker blasting in there ear. i mean think how close that spkr is to them. plus now that you are gonna amp your fronts it will be plenty loud enough. just get aroun 50-75 watts to those components and you will be just fine...

well most amps do sound the same..you'll never notice a difference unless your using VERY high end speakers.. the biggest fall of any system is usually the speakers..speakers with poor frequency response and alot of cone distortion are all too common.. Even Infinity Kappa components don't have the greatest response..but are definately a few steps ahead of most other speakers in their price range..
Focus mainly on the components..the rest is periferal..with 500Wrms..a 12" L5 would do very nicely....and is also the least expensive sub that you listed.

A lot of people in here are concerned with rear fill and it's really not necessary. Depending on your budget, concentrate on getting the best comp set you can up front, sub(s), and external amp(s), have it installed correctly and give it a listen. You will see (hear) that you do not need any rear fill at all. Rear speakers can actually affect the sound stage and imaging in a negative way.
So basically all I should be doing is amping the References with slightly more than 50wrms. Then switching the sub and adding brown bread?
What kind of box should I put this L5 in?

One final question. do you want to give me the design of the ideal box for this setup mohawk? lol, or at least some details? I know you just love to punch out numbers. lol. anyhow it would be appreciated.

Dude..you'll do the opposite what I suggest anyhow .. if you can wait..order an IDMAX now..you won't regret it.. if you have a Memphis Dealer near you for $550CAD you can get a Memphis HPO 12. Which will sound quite good and thump nicely...
Well Mohawk, lol. I'll listen, just you watch. this time round I'm not screwing around and trying to get things right away. I can wait. ha. Well anyway. I found the local Image Dynamics dealer when i was looking for Nak decks in town. And the funny thing is, they really want me to get the W7 over it, telling me it'll sound much better. lol. And that the IDMAX is no good. lol. well anyway, i don't really trust their judgement. As far as i can remember the W7 costs quite a bit more than the IDMAX.
Also if i were to get something like an IDMAX should i just get the Dual 2 ohm model. and only feed it 500WRMS. or should get a 6500D or something along with a Dual 4 ohm model. I'd rather save the money. but...

the Profit margin on the 12W7 for canadian delaers is $600...the sales price on an IDMAX is $750..so the dealer might only make $300 on an Idmax so it sounds soo much better to his bank account .. 500Wrms in my car on a single IDMAX yielded me a 142.4 at a local sound off.. so it's pretty friggen loud off 500 WRMS in 1.5 cu.ft sealed.. But the more power it gets..the happier it is.. mine don't seem to be working too hard with now 600Wrms each..Might wanna grab up the MTX6500D..or for best Sound quality a good 5-600 watt class A/B Amp..
