Foam or Rubber surrounds on components??
I was just wondering if rubber surrounds are better hands down than a foam surround? Logically I would think yes as they could probably ahndle more power and give better bass response at higher levels.

It's a toss up really.. foam offers better damping ... Rubber (butyl) is far less prone to humidity and UV damage..for the car audio environment..specially if mounted in the doors a rubber surround is safer from damage...

what do u mean by damping? Is that why JL uses foam on most of its speakers? I wondered why a company that is know for its great subs would use foam, even on the W7! i was like, whats up with that? Anyway, maybe you could slear it up for me, i wondered that too. Thanks.

damping.. acoustical suspension wise.. better subwoofer control.. for subs which are pretty much always in the dark it's allright to use foam.. for mids and such which are often exposed to moisture and sunlight..rubber is the safer choice...and it looks better
