To White Rabbit (DIY WANTED)
ok im not that dumb - ive been a daily visiter of this site for awhile - i guess from now on i can help answer some audio questions since im pretty experianced in installation and have a vast database in my head of equipment - i know when you lay carbon fiber you want to use surfboard resin and i know its a little trickier than fiberglassing. i can fiberglass but i dont wanna mess up with the carbon fiber since its not that cheap of an item
i did?

coulda sworn that was cloth! lol
its exactly the same as fiberglassing. only the cloth changes. ive explained it a whole lot here, sercing or browsing should do it. cant find it, PM, ill write something up.
last time i tried writing a DIY it got lost in the pages and pages of posts. not worth the trouble
the only difference between fibercarbon and fiberglass, is that i use glass for structure, and I use the carbon for looks. since the carbon is not structural for me, I have to take better care of sanding and of what resin I use, as it needs to be clean and clear, unlike my messy, messy glass work
edit: now that I think about it, the glassing for fibercarbon tho the same, is a little different when you get to the sanding. Give me a couple days to think of the best way to write one up, and to gather all my pics, and ill see what i can do.

What do you plan on glassing?...Glassing/carbon fiber'ing is essentially the same....what your making makes all the difference..I was gonna wait till next year and make myself some carbon fiber kickpanels..to make dash trim pieces and such.a template is a must...to get the shape right and keep it flat...
im going to do the center console but its more in depth than just the stock piece i am going to attempt to reangle it toward the end of the summer but for now im just going to redo that whole center piece where the radio and ac controls are. im going to get a wax release mold to get that center piece down and center everything off - controls, radio or i might put a 5.6/6.8 screen in there and do a cabron fiber frame - havent decided but its going to be the center console thing for sure. -Andy
haha two sentences to undermine my skill and place yorusef at teh head of the diy. and all it took was you to suggest that in my haste i should have put more detail into such a short note. Sounds to me liek someone else wants to write a diy
Im sure you know a thing or two about glass, so go for it

thanks for the comment..I see my many months of helping people out here with whatever I can has made a lasting impression..... for finishing, Just use a clear finishing resin an top of the surf board resin.. sand it as smooth as you possibly can using 800 grit sand paper..then wet sand with 1200 grit paper ..the take a nice buffer and some finishing polish for cars..(contains micro grits) and buff it to yur desired shine . the whole key to though is to have the first layer of CF as smooth and even as possible..that should let the CF show through very clearly and leave you with a shiny finish...
I Haven't workied with CF yet...but I made some kicks using a heavy polyester blanket material and added 4 coats of finishing resin then sanded and buffed it to a nice effect...

Your too nice Mohawkboom. Andypandy, why don't you make an unsanded, unfinished CF stick and I'll stick it up your WHAZOO!! LOL Whiterabbit and Mohawk both contribute a great deal to this forum and both will help you with anything you need. So respect both there oppinions. I don't know why I bother anymore, and realize Mohawks sig is truer than ever and will never change.
