why is this amp overheating, or is it?

i while back i posted about a kicker kx 400.1 class d mono Amp , i thought i was haveing a problem wit the ground, but i have messed with the ground and i know that it is grounded securely. The amp seems to cut off, i have the amp mounted on top the sub box in the trunk, and the amp was bought brand new. i see other rides with the amps enclosed in the floor and custom set ups like that and i never here about the amps cutting off! and i know my amp is getting more air then there's. should i think about moving the amp some where else! i have another amp in the car going to the rear deck speakers, and never have a problem with that amp.

Also i have 4 guage going all the way back then splitting and going to each amp with 8 guage, but i don't think that is the problem.

Please any help this is really pissing me off

The amp is 2 ohm stable, and the kicker compvr 12 is 2 ohm dvc. the speaker is run in a series making the sub a 4 ohm load. is this wrong?

Hmm..you sure you don't have it running 1 ohm mono??.. Also..it is possible that you trying to overpower the amp. Like hae your gain on the wrong side and trying to make it put out more power than possible..

Kicker amps are good - unless you have a defective one, which is unlikely. The majority of problems in car audio are caused by bad or imporper wiring. No matter how good you are at installing stereos, everyone makes mistakes. I have yet to build a system that worked 100% on the first go - and I've done 7 installs so far from the easy to the more complex.
