after some research for a mp3 deck, i've narrowed it down to the alpine cda-7894 and the kenwood mp919. i've owned an alpine unit in the past and really liked it. i like the power of the 7894 but the mp919 has the d-mask face and the blue display looks awesome. anyone with alpine or kenwood mp3 decks please tell me what you think, again my main concern is mp3 playback. thanks.

dude i have a kenwood mp3 deck, its really nice it doesnt skip like the rest of the mp3 players and its really nicely designed, i had a alpine in the past and the smallest bump made it skip and with our cars i would go with the kenwood.

i don't have an mp3 player so maybe someone else can give you some input there, but i've got a relatively new kenwood excelon in my odyssey van (don't bother knockin'..,) and an alpine 7874 in the civic and like em both. I don't think you lose with either but make sure you check out the display in daylight before you buy. i can't see any of the alpine display. just a bad design and has been kicked around on this thread before, at least certain models like 7892, 7874, 7872 and others. check it out somewhere other than the dark sound room at a moblie stereo shop. kenwood is great.

I was going to go with the 7894 but decided to put out more money and go with the 7995 HU. The 7995 has the blue lihgt setup but only difference is you need an amp to run your high's and mid's. There is a similar HU, forgot the number, that will allow you to connect the speakers with the harnest. Look it up on alpine's site and check it out. After I would highly recomend you check out Ike's auto sound online. Great prices.

Yeah I have the CDA-7995 too. its great . the display shows up pretty good and the Mp3 section plays good with liitle delay between songs. I had the premier DEH-P740 MP and it took twice as long between tracks so i got rid of it for my Alpine. www.smilephotovideo.com $375

i hae the kenwood KDC-MPV619 and even thought ive only had it for about a week, I love it. it works so good with mp3 cds. I say go for kenwood!

I ordered the Kenwood x859. It is a better deal than the 919. The X859 is an Excelon unit and carries a 2 year warranty pose to the 1 year and has more features. The display is color and has RDS on it. Plus it has a blackish finish instead of the steel finish. Or you could spend a little more and get the x959. I had the Z828 in the past and really liked it until it was stolen twice. I really never liked the movie things. I rarely had those on. But, the X959 supports WMA. A great place to get these are at Carmedia1. I think the X859 is $339 and the X959 is $419.

go with alpine. hands down the best HU you'll ever buy. but, if you're gonna go mp3, i'd wait a little bit for the new alpine cda7998 to be sold. its their newest HU. it has an oversivzed 1.3din face that retracts into the panel. its sweet. an is supposed to be their best yet. you can find it on their website.linky link or for those aol users keyword alpine. just my thoughts.

well, i got my kenwood x859 deck in today...similar to mp919. i would not reccomend getting it. you are not able to see the display during the day when the sun hits it. i thought i would run into this problem. i tried the kdc sh99 from jvc and had similar problems. i had the kenwood z828 and i was able to see the display perfectly fine. i think i am going to return it and get the kenwood x959. the display position is the same as the z828. luckily i bought mine from crutchfield so i can return it even though i tried it out. other than that, the deck is really sweet. just wanted to give you a heads up.

I totally second his opinion, I'd wait a bit more, and I'm kinda disappointed with mp3S when they are normalized and compressed they lose alot of the fine frequencies which is fine if you have a stock system, but when you start gettign some really good componenets amps and subs you will really see the downfall of MP3s, but if you rip your own always rip them at a high Kbps rate like 196 I think and they will sound better

i have a kenwood mp3 deck, not the one shown in the picture you posted but i can see my stereo in the day, my friend has the alpine one in his 2k1 civic and he cant see anything in the day plus i think the kenwood one is better :-)

i have owned 2 alpines and am pleased with their quaility, but for looks that kenwood wins hands down...
