remote wire

i hooked up my amp (MTX 4202) but i didn't hook anything to the remote. my friends told me if i hook it up i won't get the "thump" sound when i turn off my car. because the amp has auto-off. i have a stock HU right now. do i need to hook up the remote? does it serve a big purpose? or can i just leave it as is?

since your amp has the auto turn off you dont need one. i'm guessing the amp turns on/off from getting signals from the rca cables?

a remote is pretty important if your amp doesn't have the auto on/off. it turns on/off the amp when you turn on the radio/cd/cassette/etc... this prevents the amp from running even with the key out of the ignition, causing it to drain your battery

Your MTX should have a quiet turn on, my MTX 6304 does and I don't hear anything when it turns on. You could always run it from the speaker level inputs but if you get a deck with RCA outputs you will need the Turn on lead.
