I am getting ready to purchase a new HU for my 2002 civic and have been considering the new flipping face Alpine 7897 and 7998. Has anyone purchased one of these cool units and installed it in their civic!!!

Still not out yet, according to the rep he said 3rd quarter. so hopefully end of June, but then Alpine never was a quick one with new stuff. I have last years equiv. to the 7998, the 7878 and I love it. So the 7998 can only be better, being that it does quite a few more things.

Is the only diff between the 7995 and the 7998 flip downface, and detatch face?

You might want to think about another deck... I have the 7875 and my display is completely unreadable during the day.... becuase of the stupid angle of the dash.... ask around to see pics of one installed.... horrible...

I do love my deck though, I just have to cup my hand over it to see the display during the day.

Actually the radio's in question look nothing like the 7875, they are phantom face.

I just finished putting the 7998 in my 03. I had to modifiy the honda bracket and the kit to push the desk forward a bit, otherwise the phantom face wouldn't open all the way.

Turned out really nice, and I still have my factory pocket.

remember, the 7998 has no internal amplifier, so you HAVE to run an aftermarket amp on ALL your speakers

Actually because of the different display on the CDA-7998 you really wont have to much problems seeing the display. I had it in my car for a long while and loved it.
