Unhappy HID Fog Lights Help

Just installed 6000k 35W hids in my fog lights. 2005 em2.
However, only one light will come on at a time. When I turn the switch on, either the left or the right side will come on. Never both.

Everything worked fine before i got the hids. Whats wrong?

What do you mean either will turn on? What do you do differently?

When I turn the switch on, only one turns on at a time. Its random. Sometimes the left comes on, sometimes the right, but they never both come on at the same time.

To be honest.. I'm not 100% sure. Im pretty sure I'm not, and I took it out of the fog light harness when I first hooked them up. Everything worked before I put in hids.

Re: HID Fog Lights Help

Maybe your pulling to many amps through your relay now that you have HID ballasts hooked into it rather then just bulbs.

What amp rating is your relay?

Stupid question, but how do I tell? I'm pretty sure I cut out the relay. But they are ebay oem fog lights if that makes a difference.

Another thing, most of the time my stereo shuts off and resets when I turn my fog switch on. It didnt do this until I put in HID's. I have a brand new battery and alternator.

From the 12V cigarette lighter thing. Do you think it can't supply enough power? If so, where should I hook it up?

Re: HID Fog Lights Help

Ok, the way my headlights are set up is like this:

The bulbs are powered by the ballasts which are powered by the relay which draws its power directly from the battery. The original power source for the OEM bulbs is only used as a switch. You might want to try to getting them powered directly off the battery if you can.

Lighter is only rated at 7.5 amps. That's not enough.

Re: HID Fog Lights Help

Not nearly enough amperage. Maybe as a signal wire for the relay, but keep in mind that ballasts take 12vdc and basically does some voodoo magic to send (well, my ballasts do) 20kV to the HID bulbs. Wire in a relay where pins 85-86 can be to/from whatever source you want with an inline switch, but pin 87 comes from the battery and pin 30 goes to the HIDs

edit: wrong word, plus my tablet is awesome

Re: HID Fog Lights Help

So I finally got a chance to mess around with them. I connected my fog light directly to my battery, annnnnnndd....... no change

Still, only one will come on a time. And its not always the same side.

What do i do??

Re: HID Fog Lights Help

So you connected them directly to the battery individually? Not using the relay or wire harness?
