Basically im looking for info on how to wire up my map lights to come on with my done lights...Yes I know if Im looking for more light I could just add LED's to the dome lights but Id really like them all to come on when I open my door....Ive done a ton of searching with no luck on how specifically to do it on a 7th gen. There is a write up or two on how to pull this off on an 8th and 9th gen but it seems the 7th gen has a different wiring configuration so the 8th and 9th gen write ups cant be used...any help is appreciated

You are going to need to wire a relay to your dome lights (+)12V signal. When you open the door or turn on the dome light it will send the 12V signal to the relay. That relay will engage and send a 12V signal to the map lights to turn them on. Diode across the relay coil and on the map light (+) wire.

I can look in my service manual for the wire colors.

Heres some info I found about an 8th gen which is different wiring config than 7th..but a guy posting in this thread seems to be dropping some info on doing his 7th and havign some issues...

7th gen colors / +12 volts =WHT/BLU & negative control lead via MICU = GRN/RED

Take your leds direct (assuming they are 12 volt)

Youve just blown my mind.... Im a semi novice over here....Im needing a tutorial of sorts I guess. Something like " tap into wire color XX on the dome light and connect it to wire color XX on the map lights" LOL

Thanks for all who weighed in on this thread or Pmed me. I got it figured out tonight, I dont know why I was having trouble wrapping my mind around this. It was super easy!! Now my map lights come on with my dome lights and they all fade out slowly as intended...

Glad you figured it out. I never thought about connecting the dome lights to the map lights before, but I think it would be a nice feature to have them all come on at the same time. I might end up doing it.

Low lighting conditions upon entering my car was one of the first things I noticed about it after buying it. It seems just having the dome light alone isnt enough for me to see everything going on clearly in the car. When I only had the dome light I couldnt even see to put my key in the ignition at night. Now theres plenty of light, and Id have even moreso if Id break down and add some Festoon LED's off Fleabay!

On my 2010 I tapped in at dome and installed 2 of the superbrightleds little flat square stick-on type. (cant recall name)

There is like an unused portion of the lens for the map lights and I put them in there.

Hey Zaner, I have a 2005 (Canadian) SE and want to do what you did. The vehicle does not have any map lights but I am getting one from a 2003 Hybrid. I am wiring challenged and would appreciate info on exactly where you connected the wiring to. Any idea if my SE would already have the spots to screw in the map light to the roof?
