Another HID Question

Okay I finally got my HID kit from DDM Tuning for my TYCs (Yes, I plan on a retrofit in the future) and I was wondering where do you guys mount your ballasts and the relay? I know how to wire it all up and everything, I just need ideas to keep high voltage electronics dry lol.

It looks like the ballast is nicely sealed and all the connectors are splashproof. The relay, however, will have exposed connections and what not. Thanks guys!

Re: Another HID Question

first thing to do is get rid of the cheap chinese relay that comes with the relay harness they are awful mine ruptured and rendered my hids useless one night which wasn't good they sell the good relay at autoparts stores make sure its sealed and water proof. i mounted my relay to the top of the battery tie down and my ballast under the hood lip between the shock towers and fenders.also electrical grease is a good idea.

I had my low beam relay freeze one night in the winter, and I ended up driving home with high beams only...people were not happy with me :P

I second the "need a better relay" Idea lol.

Re: Another HID Question

My russian buddies helped me instal my first set of HID lights on my Ford F-150 (1980). they just used zipties to hold the wires up, and threw the ballest inside the fenders. yea they rattled and moved around, but i put over 100000 miles on that truck that way, and then when i sold it, i took the HID kit out, and put it on my honda. On the honda, I put the ballest in front of the strut towers, on the fender wall.

Re: Another HID Question

I put the driver's side ballast on the side of the bay wedged underneath a power steering pump line I think. The relay is zip tied somewhere close to that place.
The passenger side ballast is also zip tied, to something none of you have on you cars... a few loops of 1/2" O.D. tubing for my train horns..
I don't have the inverter zip tied in this pic but just envision the inverter laying against the loops and I sinch it down..http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/a...c/SANY0003.jpg
Anyway, just use zip ties.

I plugged the relay into the driver's side headlight socket and ran the wires for the passenger ballast along the front and on top of the radiator (zip ties).

I'm not too concerned about moisture and water jets hitting the ballasts or wires, it might happen but so far so good.

Re: Another HID Question

plugging the relay into anything other then directly to the battery defeats the purpose of having a relay harness.

Re: Another HID Question

Oh yeah I mean the trigger and power for the relay is plugged into the driver's side headlight socket, the power for the ballasts comes from the battery.

A retrofit;I think means; Change the headlight 'fixtures' to ones that are designed for HIDs. You'll replace the whole thing.

a retrofit is where you take the stock headlight housings and mount a non-stock HID projector in it. thus you get the effect of a stock HID car's lighting (depending on which one you choose) without having to pay for the car....
