Speedometer works here and there

Hello.

I have a 2005 Civic LX. The speedometer has been messing up on me. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it does not. Sometimes it claims I am going 17 mph...at a stop. For the last couple of days it has not worked until I come to a complete stop.

2 weekends ago I changed out the speed sensor on the transmission. It worked perfect for a week and it started to mess up exactly a week later.

Oh and to top it off the little engine light is on now.

So...

Did I get a bad sensor?
Is it my cluster?
Is it something else?

Thanks!

First: What's the code?
While you have a code reader hooked to it, make sure the reader has a live datalist that displays the VSS/MPH reading that the PCM sees. Drive the car and see if the PCM data matches what the speedo says when it acts up.

Do you still have the old sensor?
Where did the new one come from?
