hard idle, changing to headlights.
so today i noticed that if i'm sitting and idling, if i change from my daytime lights to the night headlights, the idle sounds rough for about 1.5seconds, then goes back to normal. it's not very violent but the sound is noticable.
some specs:
-aftermarket projector lamps, but running stock bulbs
-idle 500rpm
- i'm not sure if i was in park or drive
-sri, highflow cat., cat. back.
it sounded like when it goes rough while you're depressurizing the fuel lines (ei: burning all the fuel and stalling the engine).
i also have the problem that when i start the car cold, sometimes, it will turn over forever but won't start up. if i turn the car to on and wait till i hear a click (i'm guessing a fuse), it will start within two cranks. this doesn't always happen but i've taken to letting it click before i start the car every time now, to prevent damage.
i'm not sure if the issues are related. since both problems are related electronically, i'm guessing that's the problem.
-the battery is fine, it'll play music with high bass for a long time and starts the car with no problem.
-plugs are always new
-i'm not too up to snuff on alternaters or starters so i don't know if these are good. i'd guess it's one of those two or something in the fuel delivery, pump, injectors or something.
THANX for the HELP =D

Re: hard idle, changing to headlights.
Turning on the lights adds a sudden electrical load, drops the idle speed, and the idle speed has to be picked back up. I'd probably consider it normal.
500rpm is too low, if that is an actual true rpm. The dash tach can lie so I don't always believe it. I will believe a scanner datalist before I believe the tach on the dash.

Re: hard idle, changing to headlights.
The "click" is a relay behind the glove box...I dealt with the same thing. except, my relay would turn on and off on and off... I just found that the fuse box under the steering wheel possibly had some loose connections in it. with your ignition on, (engine off) shake and wiggle the fuse box that is under the steering wheel. jiggle wires, tap relays (that's how i figured out the fuse box was the culprit)

and that will fix the starting problem?

Hey! You found a solid answer to that?

Maybe you can follow up with his advice on getting some test lights set up on your ignition. Wishing I had the time to do that. Your problem really sounds like the same one I have. I think mine is just a little more further along than yours. Thread
