MP3 player audio cuts out when plugged in to cigarette usb

I have a HON98-AUX 1998-2005 Honda Auxiliary Input Converter and it works fine with just the MP3 player connected. When I plug in my MP3 player in to a small cigarette lighter to usb adapter the audio cuts out, the player does not seem to mind this and keeps playing fine but I am not hearing any thing. This stops me from charging and playing at the same time.

My solution to this is to use a inverter to get a wall outlet and then plug in a usb power adapter in to that then in to my MP3 player. This works but I have 2 some what large objects in my power port that I do not want. But it works.

My solution
-power port --> inverter AC wall outlet --> wall outlet to USB --> usb to MP3

What I want
-power port --> power port to usb --> usb to MP3

Can any one tell me why what I want is not working and give me a fix that does not involve using a inverter AC wall outlet.
