Hi all

I have a 2004 1.7 diesel Civic. I stalled it trying to set off in 3rd tonight, and when restarted the "battery not charging" warning light was on. Anyway I got home okay. What I want to know is, is this likely to be an alternator failure or should I be looking for something else first? Could stalling the car have caused such a serious fault, or do you think it was on the cards anyway?

You can check the battery and alternator at an advanced autoparts store or something for free. That would be a good first step for you.

battery light almost always means bad alternator.
