need help selecting stereo system

i recently purchased a pioneer HU. although i want to replace my fronts and backs, im likely goin to keep the fronts just to see what it sounds with my new HU. as far as subwoofers and amps, i get lost with the watts and the clarity. pretty much, i'm tryin to look for maybe just 1 15" sub no more than 800 watts or 1,000 watt amp. i just don't want to have rattling in my trunk. all suggestions will be appreciated. thanks

Re: need help selecting stereo system

doesnt matter if u have a 100w amp or a 1000w amp, if u have loose stuff, it will rattle.

you really need no more than a 10 or 12" sub. the subs today are so well built and design that a 10 is enough (especially if our cars)

for subs, look into kicker...like their L5 or L7 series sub.

If you are going to do your door speakers imo just do them all and get it out of the way. if the money is tight maybe get some sony door speakers from walmart. I like polk audio and kicker for door speakers there real clear and can handle my amp good (my doors are amped to). As for the subs im guessing you just wanna add a lil excitement to your ears and dont want to go to the extreme so just maybe get the one 15 like a kicker or memphis you dont need to go crazy though because your not going for loud but u just want to get something with good quality. you might also want to consider getting 10 inch subs because it will be cheaper than a 15 and kinda more for what you are looking for. For an amp you can try and match the brand of amp with the type on subs you get but you dont need to, you just want to make sure you have a amp big enough to push your subs. So if you have one 15in sub thats 500watt max and 250 rms you want to have a one channel amp that kinda matches those numbers stay close to them. you may want to also cosider a capacitor to save any damage to you car.

IMO, while changeing your head unit, I would at least upgrade the front speakers. You can get decent sound without spending alot and it would would sound better than the stock speakers. Listen to all the different speakers in your price range, and pick the one YOU like. As for subs, I'm a JL fan not because they can go loud, there are other subs that can slam louder, but for SQ, JL is the sub. I would suggest a 12w3 in a factory sealed enclosure, powered by an amp @450W or more. If you want to go lower then get the JL ported box. The JL enclosures are made very well. I had a sealed W3, then I upgraded to the W7 in a seald box and the difference in sound is huge, but the W3 is no slouch. The sealed enclosure is more accurate and for SQ, where the ported enclosure goes deeper and louder. Theres alot of sites that you can research like the different car audio forums and Crutchfield. Don't forget to get speaker and RCA cables. To stop rattling Dynmat or products similar will help. It will also make your stereo sound better if applied in the doors for your front speakers, and the trunk for your sub. Good luck.

Re: need help selecting stereo system

Get a brand name 10-12" subwoofer. Plenty of boom to go around with. Oh and about rattling, your license plate will rattle unless you do something about it.

An 800-1000 watt dedicated subwoofer amp is gonna be so loud you wont hear your ~25watt rms speakers powered by your HU.

A kicker L7 and Kicker zx750.1 sounds like something for you. I had one and sold it about 3yrs ago. Oh and get a sealed subwoofer box. That bass coming off that L7 is so precise and punchy you don't need a ported box to muffle it out.
