Appreciate feedback on enclosure/amp
Appreciate feedback on enclosure/amp
I'm looking to get nice, tight, low bass and I'm kind of new to field (although I don't mind doing research). I've bought a single 12" eclipse 88120dvc sub that I'm planning to run power with about 200 watts. Eclipse doesn't seem to post recommended enclosure sizes so I've been searching here and on caraudioforum.com - with a large variety of results. So here's what I've come up with, and you guys can tell me if I'm high...
Q-Logic QLH-CS12 (0.88 ft^3) enclosure (too small maybe?)
Rockford Fosgate 200M amp - running the voice coils in parallel for (around) a 2 ohm load. (is this a quality amp/too small?)
Also, what's the preferred way to attach your enclosure to the inside of your trunk? Bolts/Tech screws/other?
Unrelated question - what's the deal with "4 ohm" subs having a lower actual DC resistance? Is that 4 ohms just pulled out of thin air, or is it the circuit impedence (with inductance and all that other crap thrown in there with the DC resistance)?
There you go. If this doesn't make sense, it's okay. I'm hung-over.

it's 4 ohm nominal resistance..basically it'll work with a 4ohm mono stable amp...but then again when a subs it's a reactive load that can be as high as 60ohms... for that sub 200 watts won't eve make it bump decent..their quite power hungry.. a good 500-600 (MTX6500d $309 shipped from onlinecarstereo.com *wink wink*)watt amp will do it some justice..
also that seems to work best for a mix of SQ and low extension in 1.25 cu.ft the SVC versions work well in smaller enclosures..
Cheers

Thanks mohawk!
That's a pretty good price for a 500W amp, but I noticed they also have the Alpine MRD-M500 for $369 (shipped). How do those two amps compare? The Alpine looks pretty sweet and would match the rest of my system, but I haven't heard the two side-by-side so I can't judge performance.

wellt he MTX6500D is really an 800 watt amp ..it's class D so it runs quite a fair bit more efficient so it's easier on your electrical system. Also the Alpine is only 4ohm mono stable..
