Stock key fob. Only the unlock works when using the fob but when using the power door lock switch thats on the door panel the unlock and lock work perfectly. Not sure when this behavior started because the car is new to me. I haven't tried anything yet. Any ideas? Has anybody else had this problem? Oh and its a 2002 EX. Thanks!

Are the doors all closed when attempting lock ??

Is the red led on fob lighting when pressing lock ??

Yes all doors closed... and I forgot to mention that yes, the led comes on when pressing the lock button. That's part of the peculiar thing... clearly the plastic button is depressing the button that is soldered to the pcb... and that button is making contact with enough of the board that it is reaching the led. This is my girlfriend's car and I believe her parents still have the other keyfob. She's going to grab it later on today so we can see if that one works. Could this be a low battery symptom? Also didn't mention that the panic button doesn't appear to work at all.

Well another fob may help to narrow it down.

Post up the results.

If the led is lighting I would say the battery is o.k.

You may know better than I, but I've seen dying batteries do some weird stuff. When my car battery went in my saab I had flashing dome lights, one headlight randomly working (then the other working), my locks would randomly lock and unlock... each separately then no lights would work and the car wouldn't start... failing battery was definitely not my first guess but that it was. I await the other fob and will certainly keep you posted.

No, I don't think it is related to cars battery.

Okay, yeah, I made that very confusing... I agree not the car's battery, but I just meant that in various situations and with various components that operate with batteries -- a dying battery can sometimes cause very odd symptoms that you would never expect to be the result of a dying battery. I thought maybe the keyfob's battery dying could be causing some odd symptoms.


Update: Two days ago the keyfob was working completely... all buttons. Not sure what happened??? Still waiting for my lazy, forgetful girlfriend to get the other fob so I can compare.
