Hey guys i took some pics of my internal HU's guts for the heck of it. Its a DEH-p780mp. It kicks *** Id rather have this HU than a flip screen. I got it cheap because the guy I got it from wanted a flip screen and he said it had some rare issues of my HU screen not lighting up, but powering on. It didnt bother me any since a problem like I mentioned is usally because of a bad PCB ribbon connection, or something common like a ribbon not being in its proper position.

Anyways this problem eventually got bad enough to where it was an annoyance, so I dug into the HU to see whats up. As expected the "flex" ribbon as Pioneer calls it(flex my ***) was very brittle and literally cracked while I was checking the "flex" joints.

Just thought any pioneer owners here who have a similiar problem like mine should be aware of the dreaded flex ribbon cables. Which are common in any HU that has a motorized face....that means you flip up screens! This fix can cost around 200$, why not save some $$ and do it yourself!

The main reason I didnt get a DDin screen was I like the stock plastic bin that can hold anything you put in it. The Honda guys made a neat fail-safe that if your in a rollover that plastic bin has a gravity float so if the car is upside down a ball point pen inside it wont turn into a flying projectile.

Heres a link to a forum that has service manuals for all KINDS of stuff. Ive saved lots electronic junk by searching for svc's and fixing whatevers wrong, if possible. Its in Spanish though...use a translator or use the search function. Its called pioneer manuals for all but ive seen amps car specific stuff, tv, amp repair etc....

Most double dins come with the ribbon cables too lol.. It still has a motorized face (most of them anyway). In fact, ribbons are used in most electronics regardless of movement or not...

Right, the computer your on now probably has at least 5 ribbons Cd keyboard LCD screen network lan card sound card etc...lol

The same idea folding a sheet of paper over and over. Its going to eventually tear the crease where you folded it. I ordered the part on Tuesday with 2 day air...it still hasnt shipped. Plus I havent put back my dash back together so Ive been without my heater, defogger etc since monday...talk about a great morning commute...

That may be true but, those electronics aren't subjected to movement, vibration, dust and, debris like electronics in a vehicle. I'm on a 10 year old computer right now and no problems so far.

Thats looking pretty good, the other problem with the flip up units is that they usually block something on the dash, either vents or switches or *****, its just inconvenient.
